Marvel Comics Reveals SECRET X-MEN Roster Led By Sunspot And Cannonball Ahead Of February 2022 Launch

Sunspot. Cannonball. Marrow. Boom-Boom. Tempo. Forge. Banshee. Strong Guy. Armor. Earlier this year, each of those characters were part of a vote giving fans the chance to choose the final member of the Krakoan Age's first team of X-Men, but they're now being brought together for an adventure of their own in the pages of Secret X-Men #1

The special one-shot written by Excalibur and X of Swords scribe Tini Howard and drawn by Daredevil artist Francesco Mobili will bring these mutant heroes together for a secret mission to the stars.

When the Shi’ar Empire faces an unexpected threat, they must call upon the X-Men. Team co-captains Sunspot and Cannonball will lead Marrow, Tempo, Forge, Banshee, Strong Guy, Armor, and Boom-Boom on a dangerous mission to save a figure of paramount importance...the daughter of Professor X and empress of the Shi’ar: Xandra!

"We had to do it, yeah? And I jumped at the chance to tell the story while I had the time," Howard said. "Cannonball was my vote, and Strong Guy? Tempo? Boom-Boom? This is the perfect team for an intergalactic X-Men mission. I hope they didn't forget anything important!"

You can check out the team on Leinil Francis Yu's cover below, while it's been confirmed that Secret X-Men #1 will arrive in comic book stores on February 9.

I'm a simple man. You put Marrow and Cannonball in a comic book and I'm all ears. Some of my all time favorite X characters

@Waddles - Yep, her bumping heads with authority is pretty much a given at this point. I hadn't read any comics with her in the last 5-6 years so I don't know if her personality changed at all, but I've always loved how much of a chip she carries on her shoulder (no pun intended)

@OmegaDaGrodd - I keep forgetting about Marrow for some reason, but everytime I'm reminded of Marrow I'm like ''this character is way too cool to forget''

@bkmeijer - Hahaha same. I feel in love with her during those Post Onslaught comics. She was an instant classic

Is this everyone who lost the vote for new x-men a couple months back? Either way I love it

Now that's a pretty cool line-up. Liked the line-up with Cyclops, Jean, Polaris, Sunfire, Synch, X-23 and Rogue already, but this one might just have far more fun characters on the roster.

As for Sunspot and Cannonball themselves, I do hope we get to see them be part of the roster in the inevitable live-action reboot too:

First team: Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Jean, Polaris and Havok
Second team: Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Banshee, Storm, Sunfire, Colossus, Thunderbird
Third team: Shadowcat, Rogue, Psylocke, Dazzler, Gambit, Jubilee, Bishop, Cannonball

I'm glad the characters who lost the poll to join the main X-Men team aren't going to waste.

Marvel has quite the secret fetish don't they? Only on par with dc and their crisis fetish.

@Origame - In Doomsday Clock, Geoff Johns did tease the hypothetical Marvel and DC crossover as being called "Secret Crisis"

@roxas1003 - Yeah. He's been drawn both light and dark over the years,, but he's actually darker here than I can ever remember him.

@CorndogBurglar - Early Sunspot was a player.

@GeneralZod - Sunspot has always been a great character, but his early days were his most interesting.

@CorndogBurglar - The early 80s New Mutants by Claremont/MacLeod was an absolute joy to read back in the day with such diverse characters (i don't mean racially/ethnically, although that was obvious, but that was secondary; the diversity was in the personality of the characters). One of my favorite titles on my monthly pull list. When Sinkiewicz took over the art, it got a lot darker (Demon Bear, etc.), but still really good. I can't remember why MacLeod left the strip.

@GeneralZod - Yeah man, I never read it while it was new. I picked up in the 90's when they became X-Force. But with all the references they made in that book about their previous relationships I went back and read most of it. It was all good stuff. Very unique from the rest of the X-Stuff of its time.

And, even though the New Mutants movie wasn't exactly what I had hoped, I didn't find it as bad as most people. I know there was a lot of complaining about it being a horror movie, but whats hysterical to me is that all of the New Mutants' most popular stories were horror-ish.

I didn’t know that The Ray switched from DC to Marvel and gender swapped.
