SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Will Top AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR At The Domestic Box Office Today
Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to shatter box office records, and after less than a month in theaters, the wall-crawler's latest big screen adventure will swing past Avengers: Infinity War today...
Spider-Man: No Way Home hasn't just exceeded expectations at the box office; it's smashed through them and performed better than anyone could have ever imagined this time last month.
We'll get updated global box office numbers over the weekend, but the Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures threequel will today top Avengers: Infinity War to become the fifth-biggest movie of all time in North America. As you can see below, the expectation is that it will surpass $700 million by Monday.
That's amazing, spectacular, astonishing, and every other Spidey-themed adjective you can think of. No one can quite figure out how the movie has done this in the midst of a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases thanks to a new variant of the virus, but being a phenomenal piece of filmmaking surely helps.
"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period," we declared in our review last month. "As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."
The movie has the best "Audience Score" ever on Rotten Tomatoes, so it's not just critics who have been floored by the web-slinger's latest adventure. There have already been rumblings about some sort of re-release, likely to tie into the "Best Picture" campaign we know Sony plans on mounting. Can Spider-Man: No Way Home crack $2 billion without China? That currently remains to be seen.
Today #SpiderManNoWayHome will do what nobody thought was possible before release - it will surpass the $678.8M of #Avengers Infinity War to become the #5 movie of all-time at the domestic #boxoffice. New #SpiderMan shd reach $682-683M tonight and then break $700M on MON!
