The first two Marvel animes, Iron Man and Wolverine, were good starts. Iron Man at least anyway. I've been hearing some really positive things about the X-Men one, now that it has aired in the States also, I can say what I thought.

The story follows the aftermath of the death of Jean Grey. The X-Men have disbanded. However, when a teenage girl is kidnapped, Professor Charles Xavier calls in the team once more.

Sure, the Phoenix is probably the most overused plot point in the X-Men shows, though it's only used for the flashback, which is a good thing. The last X-Men show was the canceled Wolverine and the X-Men. After a season, the show didn't come back sadly. So we have to this for now. Of course, when Japan takes our characters, we can only hope for the best. They produced Iron Man, which kept the core concept well. Wolverine on the other hand, did NOT keep the core concept, changing Wolverine himself into someone who would better fit in with something like Bleach. So when you adapt something as big as the X-Men, you can't afford to mess up. We want to see our characters kept to the core, with a hint of anime style. And the X-Men premiere succeeds.

I actually found the premiere similar in tone with Wolverine and the X-Men. This episode was surprisingly slow-paced, there wasn't any big fight, it's basically the X-Men coming together. If handled wrongly, this could have been dull, but thankfully it's handled right. The character dynamics from the comics are here, from Wolverine's constant chatter with Cyclops, to Beast and Xavier being the two big brains of the group. It's good stuff.

One of the few negative things about this premiere was.......Cyclops. Man, he was awful in Wolverine and the X-Men, but here he's just about the same, if not worst. Why is he now always painted as this mellow-in-self-misery guy? You just feel like you want to slap him. Thank goodness it looks like we won't have to deal with that for the rest of this series, unlike Wolverine and the X-Men, where he was just plain awful the whole time. Wolverine.....now that is what I'm talking about. Now it's hard to even imagine what that other Wolverine was, this is the REAL deal, complete with Steven Blum as his voice. A true highlight of the premiere. Storm on the other hand is vastly different than all of her previous incarnations. She's more care-free than her serious goddess-like character from previous appearances. She still is the voice of reason though. Beast is portrayed similar to that of his Wolverine and the X-Men, albeit cooler. He's going to be a major player in this one, something the other show was lacking. Professor X is the same as always, no difference. Which is a good thing.

Like I said, there's really no fights to speak of. That was surprising, usually the first episode of anything is pretty explosive. The dialogue here is pretty solid. (save for the ridiculousness of the humans in the classroom scene, nah, scratch that. All non-Mutant people look pretty ridiculous) Watching Wolverine arguing with Cyclops is worth the watch itself.

Overall, the X-Men anime is off to a great start. The characters are for the most part, adapted from the comics. It has potential to be a great X-Men show, maybe one of the best. Plus, after the Wolverine anime, it's good to see our clawed friend back in action with his real voice.

9/10.

I'm not a fan of the Marvel anime style, but i loved this first episode of x-men. Realy awesome. And i think Cyke wont be the gloomy downer he is now for long, because soon they'll introduce Emma Frost!

I watched all these already because i can speak Japanese.......not really but i can read english a little,This is a lot better than Wolverine and Iron Man. It's not the type of stories or animation we americans are used to. It's like the X-Men were dropped into a Sci Fi Horror movie.

I was worried about Cyclop's character too, but don't worry, he gets better and is a proper leader in this.

wait until u have to watch them fight the U-Men for at least eight boring episodes(I quit watching after the giant bug fight). U-Men that seem like carbon copies of the villains in Afro Samurai only not nearly as cool. Wait until u see Storm faint from exhaustion after mustering up the tiniest gust of wind. Secondary mutations that turn people into giant bugs. Why reinvent the wheel?

Ill be honest when i saw this this Anime is a very slow burn the last 5 episodes were brillant, you kind of have to suffer through bs for awhile, which is typical of most anime,it builds the background before you get to the meat of the story. But me being a X-Men loyalist i suffered through proudly. But for the last 5 episodes alone it was worthwhile and the conclusion leaves you begging for more.Blade is by far the best Marvel anime but this is very close, they need a second season.Btw Wolvers is Very Feral In This One.Stick With it Support The product i think people forget that if you dont support a product they move on to the next one, just when it starts to get good

Looks interesting, character designs look a whole lot better than the ones from Wolverine and Ironman. Too bad, G4 is no longer on my provider lol. I'll just catch it on DVD. :P

Caught the 1st episode last night & it was pretty good. A bit slow since no action was involved but anime always has sweet fight scenes so it'll get better later on. I just hope it lasts a few seasons. Hated that Wolverine & the X-Men got cancelled. It was getting SOOO good :(

Yeah, I never cared for Cyke in this series. Just wait until you see Emma's character though. You all will be sorely displeased.

@OtakuPapi your right support the brand stick with it, it will get great.

Now I have watched the 92 X-men (aka branded 90's X-men) 2000 X-men(evolution)and 2008 X-men and the wolverine which needed to come back but oh well. I can say it begins kinda like the other two (evolution and team wolverines) the 90's X-men started with action no taking part of the team and cyclops was the leader.

I hope they would bring in the Shi'ar empire, bring in rouge with Mrs. marvels powers, bring in gambit, kitty and colossus and if this is anything like the motion comic X-men which was 5 episodes and that's it(wtf) Emma will keep Scotty happy by banging his brains out, no kidding chick was talking about it and telepath's in the school read her thoughts it was funny hot and interesting. as X-men's evolution had great story telling abilities, 90's X-men had and abundance of history which needs to be untapped in this X-men series as it can go past pg ratings and explore in depth without being held back.

The problem with the last couple of X-men series is that the X-men tend end up being their own problem, not to mention in X-men and the wolverine magneto just attacked his own island to get mutants to join in arms and fight, no signs of that happening, no army ever shown of magnetos just a few foot soldiers and Piertrowhen they say mutant army their should be a mutant army.(side note Xmens 90s wanda and quick silver did not know their father from birth/evolution Wanda was institutionalized while quick silver was favored/wolverine and X-men added a second daughter and pierto was the outcast and wanda most trusted.to many adaptations of the relationship)

This X-men needs to kick it up a notch, its really that simple.

Note to marvel:
X-men and the avengers need to be brought together as they would be able to explore all the stories of mutants and advanced humans, The full package needs to be given, and investment for the biggest franchise in history needs to be made, it would be great.

Anyone thats dissappointed in cyclops just needs to chill. He comes back around as the leader, a hard ass leader. The first few episodes hes still dealing loosing Jean. This is a good story and great animation. 9/10 in the opinion of a cartoon/anime fan.

I watched the whole series over the summer.
The review is generally fair. A little too harsh IMO.
It's definitely entertaining and Wolverine is spot on.
I especially liked when he asked, I think it was Breast, to hit in episode 11 or 12 to make him angry enough to go berserker. That was a fun moment.
I reviewed 'Blade' not long ago in 'reviews', in which I gave it high praise as the best Marvel anime I've ever seen.
It's pretty flawless.

Professor X: thats precisely it wolverine, I like you, I like that i have some one on our team who is a [frick]ing animal, I like the fact that I can point you in any damn direction and you can [frick] shit up at will, that is why you will always be one of my xmen its because you tear shit up and like it, it gets my blood rushing, on lonely days a boner...wolverine:what??! professor x: the point is you excite the [frick] out of me!!!!

@Destroyer14- Okay, okay! Don't get defensive.
I wrote 'A little' too harsh...just a little.
But yeah, 9/10 is what I would score it too.
On the other hand 'Blade', IMO, is 10/10 !

So just watched the first two episodes and I really enjoy the series. Its kind of appalling to me that anyone could be down on Cyclops for being emotionally unstable after the love of his life committed suicide. I would think it would be a miracle for anyone to get over such a death in a lifetime, let alone a year. To each his own I suppose. Really with the world wasn't team Cyke or team Wolvie.
