Mr. Robot is pretty much a perfect place to kick off a movie's viral marketing campaign, hence why Paramount Pictures have released a series of teaser videos for their live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell during tonight's season two finale. Three have so far found their way online, but a fourth just aired at time of writing, so don't be surprised to see even more appear as the night wears on.

As someone who isn't familiar with the manga of the same name, I have no idea what significance these teaser clips have, but they're more than likely heralding a full-length trailer in the very near future (especially as Facebook and Twitter accounts have also been launched for the movie, hence the logo reveal above). If you know what these mean, feel free to sound off in the comments section.

Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, and Michael Pitt. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the movie is currently set to be released on March 31st, next year.

I like what I'm seeing so far. The first clip looks like this movie is attempting to honor the source material's Japanese roots. I think we'll be seeing a trailer in the next two weeks, most likely with Girl on the Train which is a Universal/Dreamworks production.

I was seeing these during Mr. Robot and it took me a moment to realize what they were for.

I humbly ask all of you, what do you think will happen if this film is released and actually turns out to be GOOD? Would you be accepting of a live-action Akira or Evangelion?

@AvisQuinn - i say baby steps. Akira is an undertaking that requires LEGITIMATE perfection. I'd wait to see if we can get a few good anime films first before doing Akira.

If GITS is good, let's tackle something like Gundam or Fullmetal Alchemist.

Death Note is also being made. The U.S. remake. It has a talented lead and a grateful up and coming director.
