New GHOST IN THE SHELL Set Pics Feature Scarlett Johansson As 'The Major' & Pilou Asbæk As 'Batou'

Some snaps from the Hong Kong set of the live-action Ghost In The Shell adaptation provide a better look at Scarlett Johansson as The Major, and a first glimpse of Pilou Asbæk As Batou.

Kotaku (via hk01 and Apple Daily) has posted some fairly revealing images from the Hong Kong set of Ghost In The Shell. They give us a much better look at Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi (shortened to simply "The Major" for obvious reasons), as well as Pilou Asbæk As Batou, sporting that distinctive white flattop the character is known for.

There's also some shots of the surrounding marketplace set, which provide a pretty good idea of the visual style the movie is going for.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Rupert Sanders is at the helm of the anime adaptation, which is also shooting in Wellington, New Zealand. Ghost In The Shell is set for release on March 31, 2017.

@MattBellissimo - yea I'm sure it's on its way although I don't personally see a problem since it is an American remake, if it was still set it Japan I can see why there would be backlash...I'm pretty sure the departed was a remake of a Korean movie and I've never heard any backlash for it being changed to Irish mobsters

@GrilledPopcorn - I'm a fan of Ghost in the Shell and I will probably see this. These shots dont look so bad, aside from Batou obviously missing his eye cybernetics. If the trailer looks good I'll get more amped

LEOSTRATOR
LEOSTRATOR - 6/8/2016, 9:28 AM
@CopperCrow - Pretty much every anime character ever created looks white. That's why I read Saturday AM.
CopperCrow
CopperCrow - 6/8/2016, 4:24 PM
@Shanksman -it's all in the eyes. Is it 'racist' these days to point out the shape of a Asian'so eye?
Shanksman
Shanksman - 6/8/2016, 4:32 PM
@CopperCrow - Yeah because white people have eyes as big as half of their face. Sure. Oh also pink and red pupil. Sure.
CopperCrow
CopperCrow - 6/8/2016, 6:30 PM
@Shanksman - lol, we'll if you had to put your basic anime character on a scale between Asian eyes and Caucasian eyes, I'd say it leans towards Caucasian.
Shanksman
Shanksman - 6/9/2016, 11:18 AM
@CopperCrow - With that logic, how do you "scale" the nose and face structure? Asian tend to have flat and rounder face structure compared to white people. Also Caucasian tends to have more protruding nose, anime character do not.

Alot of white people are just so full of themselves that they see themselves as the default races in everything. Its "normal" actually, just that its stupid and ignorant at the same time.
DocDangerous
DocDangerous - 6/8/2016, 5:54 AM
Because anime characters always look straight up Japanese.
Shanksman
Shanksman - 6/8/2016, 8:43 AM
@DocDangerous - Whatchu talkin bout mate? Anime characters look exactly like white people! White people have green and pink hair all over the world! They also have eyes half as big as their head!
DocDangerous
DocDangerous - 6/8/2016, 9:18 AM
@Shanksman - anyone from Berserk, Bleach, DeathNote, Durrarara!, FLCL, Dragon Ball Z, Parasyte: TM, Initial D, Deadman Wonderland, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop.... I can go on. None of the characters in those shows look slightly Asian aside from names. As for the hair color and eye size? Not really relevant. Anyone can dye their hair, hair color doesn't denote ethnicity. Eye size is also a moot point since no one anywhere has eyes that size.
Shanksman
Shanksman - 6/8/2016, 9:47 AM
@DocDangerous - We are talking about the looks, and now hair color and eye size is not relevant? HAHAHAHA. Oh, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

You pointed it out yourself no one have eyes with that size so its a moot point, then so is your "anime character look like white people." So which part does Anime character resemble white people should I ask?
Oh yeah dye their hair, parents of those anime character help them dye their hair since they were born right? What about pupil? They wore contact lenses since the age of 2 right? Fcking hilarious. You people are always so full of yourself.
DocDangerous
DocDangerous - 6/8/2016, 10:33 AM
@Shanksman - I'm still failing to see how pink, purple, green hair color makes for an Asian character. What of that resembles Asian? How many Asian people do you know with bright green hair and saucer plate eyes? You are a [foo foo], so congrats with that.
