ONE PIECE Spoilers: Find Out How An Intriguing Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Season 2

Welcome to the Great Pirate Era!

All eight episodes of Netflix's live-action adaptation of bonkers, pirate-themed fantasy adventure One Piece are now streaming, and, for the most part, the show seems to have been embraced by fans of the wildly popular anime/manga.

Like a lot of modern shows that leave the door open for a follow-up season, One Piece does feature a post-credits scene (well, more pre-credits, post title card), and as long as you're okay with major spoilers, you can find out what happens below.

In the season finale, Luffy D. Monkey and his gang of Straw Hat pirates manage to defeat the ferocious Fish-Man Arlong and his crew, and set sail on their quest to find the fabled treasure of the title, the One Piece. As our heroes finally put their differences aside and plan their next move, we cut away to the title card, and are treated to an additional scene just before the credits.

In the stinger, we're introduced to a mysterious individual looking down at Luffy’s wanted poster. He then proceeds to burn through the image of our rubbery protagonist's face with one of his cigars as smoke billows around him.

While we never see his face, fans will know that this is almost certainly Smoker, aka Captain Smoker/Smoker the White Hunter, a hugely formidable marine with a burning (no pun) hatred of pirates.

Luffy and his crew are pretty handy in a fight themselves, but this fella's ability to transform his body into pure smoke is sure to cause them some big problems.

As far as we know, Smoker hasn't been cast yet, but if One Piece is renewed for a second season, an announcement will likely follow soon after (when the strikes are over, that is).

Did you watch One Piece yet? If so, what did you think? For those unfamiliar with the story, you can check out an official synopsis below.

"Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom ever since he can remember. He sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE, to become King of the Pirates! But in order to find the ultimate prize, he will need to assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.

The heart and soul of the story is Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his rambunctious, ragtag crew made up of talented misfits called the Straw Hats. Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu) is the ambitious but guarded swordsman. Nami (Emily Rudd) is a thief who keeps her secrets close to the vest. Usopp (Jacob Romero) is another dreamer with adventure in his heart. And Sanji (Taz Skylar) is a skilled cook and charming rascal. Together, they embody what ONE PIECE is all about: the power of achieving dreams, and the bond between found family and nakama (close friends) facing hardship together."

One Piece stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Gibson as Usopp.

I look forward to seeing Smoker and Tashigi! As well as the Loguetown Arc and I'll be happy when the strikes are over so I can see future seasons!

I really enjoyed this series. The anime was a little too frenetic for me. Maybe I needed to give it some time

@WhatIfRickJames - feel the exact same about both. Although just wanting to know the story and being impatient has me thinking I will give it another chance… idk if I can wait 15 years to see the story play out (since they have like 1000 episodes and counting lol )

Also really looking forward to season 2, hope the show’s a big success and quickly renewed!

@ReverseFlasher - for shits and giggles, I put on the anime episode chronologically following the live action series me I think that it might be a little too much, it’s like 24-25 episodes into the first season. Then there’s another 975 episodes to watch on top of that? I dunno. I think I’ll wait for the second season or read the manga

@WhatIfRickJames - i did the same already lol… i may have chosen incorrectly it was like episode 45 for me and seemed to be after the fishmen arc conclusion… buggy is on an island with all sorts of things trying to eat him

I'm genuinely curious about this series for one particular reason.

Normally the anime Netflix chooses to adapt are small, very self contained stories.

One piece is a giant ongoing narrative that still hasn't been resolved in decades.

So are Netflix planning to continue this show for the foreseeable future? Because they're also infamous for canceling shows after a few years.

I won't bother because Netflix ALWAYS cancels their shows, this would need Stranger Things numbers times a thousand to finish the Manga. No way in hell

@bobevanz - it's the top show in nearly 60 regions on Netflix. Hopefully that means it's doing well enough to not get cancelled.

@bobevanz - they would have to do some major condensing if they even dream about getting close to the end

Cannot believe they that actually made this show great. Really solid season. Perfect cast. Well-balanced action and comedy.

Never saw the anime or read the manga, but yeah this was great fun. Maybe a bit too silly at times... but I get that this was the intention. Loved most of the cast, aside from the irritating little shit with the glasses who is really just not a very good actor.

To summarize: Great soundtrack, phenomenal set and costume design and eight hours of Easter Egg hunting like

As a One Piece anime watcher of almost 20 years, i enjoyed this show. The style and aesthetics are on point. The changes they made are acceptable for a wider audience.

Oda being involved is a real advantage. I recently read his interview that one of the inspirations was Shaolin soccer and boy I got excited because of this fact. I guess he also saw Kung Fu Hustle.

Im betting this will be a long-running series. They started off very well and they will improve some more.

This was never going to match or surpass the anime, but it was a damn good attempt! Very pleasantly surprised with the first season. The atmosphere, the music, the main cast, and the action were all fantastic. Not to mention the fact that they unashamedly embraced the wackiness, which was a huge breath of fresh air. If they can get a bigger budget for season 2, hopefully they'll be able to iron out the kinks (cheap wigs, some dodgy VFX here and there, character sizes etc), and maybe even secure Jamie Lee Curtis as Kureha.

Show was great. Wish it was longer. If this works than so does Dragon Ball. Now get on that Disney.

Wow so much fun I had tried watching this anime like 15 times because I heard great things about it but never got over the weird animation that is used when the series begins but wow this Netflix version has kick started my binging of the anime now.....because I have realized where this manga is totally boss is with strong well written characters and side characters and I must say the series highlighted all those so well.
