While on the promotional tour for Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson lightly touched on the status of her next big-budge tentpole, Dreamworks' live-action Ghost in the Shell. “It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know.”
Johansson somersaulted Suicide Squad's Margot Robbie for the lead role in the adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga (It's still unconfirmed whether Johansson is playing The Major or someone new in Dreamworks' vision). Bill Wheeler penned the script. Avi Arad, Steven Spielberg and Steven Paul are overseeing the project.
It's interesting that Johansson states that she only knows when filming begins and that's all. Does that mean she hasn't read the script yet?
The film is currently slated for release on April 14, 2017.
