With such a massive ensemble cast, it's inevitable that a few characters will fade into the background to some extent, but one hero, in particular, has been largely left out of all marketing and promotion for Avengers: Doomsday despite being viewed as a surprise standout of their recent team-up movie.
Possible spoilers follow.
Fans have noticed that Hannah John-Kamen's Ava Starr, aka Ghost, has barely appeared in any teasers, spots, or official promo art for the movie, even when her fellow New Avengers are featured. To be fair, the same could be said about Bob/Sentry (Lewis Pullman), but his absence may have more to do with keeping the character's new look under wraps.
In any case, this has led to speculation that Ghost may not last very long in Doomsday, and after Taskmaster's treatment in Thunderbolts*, it does seem like a solid theory.
Olga Kurylenko's Antonia Dreykov barely showed up in the later marketing after initially being highlighted along with the rest of the team, and the character ended up being unceremoniously killed off after around three minutes of screen time.
When it comes to the X-Men, Nightcrawler hasn't been featured much more than Ghost, and sure enough, rumor has it that the Fuzzy Elf will fall during the Sentinel battle.
For what it's worth, the various plot leaks - at least one of which is believed to be mostly accurate - haven't mentioned Ghost as one of Doomsday's casualties, so it could simply come down to Marvel's marketing department not having much faith in the character bringing more eyes to the product.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were hit with significant delays last year, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.
Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
