With just over a month to go before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters, more details about the Marvel Studios movie are being revealed. Today, we have a first look at a map of Latveria, featuring the names of key locations in the country ruled by Doctor Doom.
The map confirms that Doomstadt is the nation's capital, with Castle Von Doom beside it. Doomvale, Doomsburg, and Doomton are all towns named after Victor Von Doom, along with Doomwood Forest, Mt. Victorum, and Doom Falls.
The Citadel of Doom, meanwhile, is likely the tower we've seen featured in recent tie-in commercials for the movie. Its significance to Avengers: Doomsday's plot has yet to be revealed.
In case it wasn't clear, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom is from Earth-828, the home of the Fantastic Four. This movie will hopefully explore some of the team's history with Victor, and a newly released tie-in book confirms he hails from that reality—despite speculation to the contrary—and that he has a "rich and complex history" with Marvel's First Family.
"The fearsome Victor Von Doom is the mysterious and enigmatic monarch of Latveria. He is master of both sorcery and technology with an intellect to rival Reed Richards's and a will to match," it reads. "He shares a rich and complex history with The Fantastic Four, his country being noticeably absent from gatherings of Sue Storm's Future Foundation."
The decision to pivot from Kang the Conqueror to Doctor Doom means there hasn't been time for us to get acquainted with the villain before he takes centre stage in Avengers: Doomsday. That leaves it up to the Russos to explore his past and rivalry with Mister Fantastic.
