For months now, rumours have persisted that Avengers: Doomsday opens with an Incursion between Earth-10005 and the home of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. During that sequence, Deadpool and Wolverine will reportedly battle the web-slinger with the fate of both realities at stake.
Ryan Reynolds has teased his and Hugh Jackman's respective MCU returns at San Diego Comic-Con and D23, and now we only need official confirmation. Fortunately, it may have come our way from an unexpected source.
As you can see below, fabric from his Avengers: Doomsday costume has gone live on an auction website. This confirms plans for the Merc with the Mouth to meet the Avengers and Fantastic Four (despite being absent from trailers, Wade Wilson is rumoured to be a big part of the battle at the X-Mansion).
So, we're one step closer to finally learning why Thor was crying over the downed Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine's TVA scene.
During a recent Avengers Endgame: Encore Q&A, Anthony Russo confirmed that the full cast of Avengers: Doomsday has not been revealed. "The cast is so large, and we've announced some of the cast, and we haven't announced some of the cast," he said. "I get confused myself over who we've announced and not announced, so I have to just slow down."
He went on to reflect on the process of convincing Robert Downey Jr. to return to the MCU, not as Iron Man, but as the villainous Doctor Doom. "From that first meeting with Robert, we were basically pitching him, 'Hey, Robert, we want you to come in and be Tony Stark to be the antagonist to Steve Rogers in Civil War.'"
"It was a very scary idea to a lot of people that we would sort of put that character in a position of being considered the bad guy. But Robert is brave. He likes to be surprised, he likes to be pushed into difficult places," the filmmaker noted. "It was a very similar process thinking about [him] playing Victor Von Doom."
