Avengers: Doomsday Test Screening Reactions Praise Doctor Doom As One Of The MCU's Best Villains

A new report shares positive Avengers: Doomsday test screening reactions, with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom reportedly rivalling Thanos and James Marsden's Cyclops emerging as a standout.

Avengers: Doomsday is nearly here, and while work continues on the Marvel Studios movie, it surely won't be long until post-production concludes and the Russo Brothers fully shift attention to next December's Avengers: Secret Wars.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, a recent test screening took place, and the movie is receiving positive reviews. The current runtime is said to be 2 hours and 50 minutes, making it a little shorter than the three-hour Avengers: Endgame.

Despite concerns from fans about Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU as a different character, Doctor Doom is being hailed as one of the MCU's best villains. In fact, Victor Von Doom is said to be on par with Josh Brolin's Thanos.

Interestingly, James Marsden's Cyclops is being hailed as a standout in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor never really got his due in 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies, so this news will be welcomed by fans of Scott Summers.

Richtman concludes by saying that Avengers: Doomsday currently has only one important post-credits scene. It remains to be seen whether a second secret stinger will be added or this is it for the upcoming blockbuster. Whatever the scene reveals, it will almost certainly set up next December's Avengers: Secret Wars.

This all bodes well for the movie, especially after a Multiverse Saga that's drawn mixed reviews from many fans for inconsistent storytelling. The expectation is already that Avengers: Doomsday will break a lot of box office records over the holidays, and great reviews will help with that.

In Avengers: Doomsday, beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Mabel Cadena, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, India Rose Hemsworth, and Wesley Holloway all make their Avengers franchise debuts.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, along with X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, plus Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18.

I know the MCU takes creative liberties all the time regarding comic book 1:1 accuracy but I still really hope Cynthia Von Doom (Doom’s momma) is still incorporated into his backstory in someway shape or form

@Kahron0 - it should be tied to his reasoning for learning magic

@Kahron0 - I hope so too but I think they are replacing that with Doom’s wife and child which admittedly is more cliched but it seems like they are keeping his arrogance & ego while also thinking that he’s the only one that can save everyone.

The Russo’s themselves have said that Doom has original elements to his character for the purposes of the story they are telling but they hope to incorporate all the things people they think consider awesome about the character from the comics too.

@Bucky74 - I’d love for it to be that Cynthia is not only the reason for Doom learning magic but also why he’s obsessed with the multiverse/incursions in the first place. Maybe like in the comics, Cynthia performs some spell to protect their tribe but it backfires -killing nearly everyone including Werner(Doom’s papa) while Cynthia disappears without a trace but is hinted to be lost in another dimension

@Kahron0 - I like that but the Russo’s will probably ignore her and keep it super sime

So rumours of him having 2 min of screen time because he gets killed off aren’t true?

They just turned Doomey Jr into MCU Zemo 2.0, I'd have prefered if they had kept Kang as the main villain for these movies, and that they had brought real Doom to the MCU a little bit later for Secret Wars as himself and not as a replacement for other characters.

There have been rumors since the 4 teaser trailers that Doom would be an exceptional villain and moreover that Cyclops would be an MVP... Literally no new "news" in this post.

Cool , sounds good if true…

The apparent 2 hrs and 50 mins runtime sounds good and is longer then Infinity War which was 2 hrs and 29 mins which I feel is the more appropriate comparison being the first of a two parter.

Nice to hear about Marsden Cyclops being a standout though Doom being considered one of the MCU’s strongest villains isn’t surprising given how he’s been portrayed in the trailers so far which I hope is the case in the film too.

Anyway , still have some genuine concerns but can’t help but be excited for Doomsday too so fingers crossed it turns out well!!.

I think I remember reading years back that the Russoa are big fans of cyclops so I can’t believe he would die like in two minutes

Not surprised by Marsden. After watching him in the series Paradise. Has a very commanding presence. He was really cast well for Xmen but a missed opportunity

I had predicted that Cyclops would steal the spotlight from the main cast. The excitement for him was more than for Thor and Steve when the first teasers came out. After finally able to stand out it's going to be truly tragic seeing him killed off.

Ah, the "test screenings are great". Meanwhile, less than 2 months away, the trailers look like a mess.

To be fair, the MCU has never been the home of fantastic villains.

The early formula was Superhero Origin Story + Reverse UNO Card of Hero as antagonist.

I'd love for them to give DOOM the treatment he deserves but they already [frick]ed up the FF from Hell to breakfast, so that's off the table.

This is going to be the last hurrah for the MCU.

They did Scott Summers dirty at Fox. Glad to hear they’ve let the true Cyclops show up
