AVENGERS: ENDGAME Directors Don't Anticipate MCU Return Until "The End Of The Decade"

Joe & Anthony Russo stepped away from the MCU after helming the last two Avengers movies, and while there is a chance they will return, the brothers don't anticipate anything happening for a long time.

For many, Joe and Anthony Russo delivered among the very best the MCU has had to offer so far with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

The brothers stepped away from Marvel Studios after the Infinity Saga finale to focus on their own projects, but a lot of fans are hoping to see them return to helm either Avengers: Secret Wars or the elusive X-Men reboot.

The good news is, the filmmakers have kept in touch with Marvel and do anticipate working with the studio again. The bad news? It probably won't happen for a very long time.

“We’re always talking; we’d need to see what would work,” Joe tells Variety. “[But] we won’t be ready to do anything with Marvel until the end of the decade.”

Not the update many will have been hoping for, but hey, if they do return by 2030, they might be just in time to take the helm of X-Men!

The Russos have found some success via their AGBO studio, but critics have not been quite so kind to their post-Endgame projects. Even so, sequels and spinoffs for The Gray Man are said to be in development, and their next big-budget sci-fi flick, Netflix’s The Electric State starring Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown, is now in pre-production.

So, it's easy enough to understand why the filmmakers will be so busy for the next few years, but even if/when they do return to the MCU, they don't see any future superhero movie coming close to matching Avengers: Endgame's $1.2 billion box office haul.

“It will never happen again,” Joe says of the movie's incredible success. “That was an apex of that era of theatrical filmmaking. When we started AGBO, we already felt the winds shifting.”

What do you guys make of The Russos' comments? Are you disappointed, or would you rather see some new blood make a mark on the MCU in their absence?
