Putting to rest the tired trope that women don't enjoy movies based on comic books, social media ticketing platform Atom Tickets has released the results of a survey that shows women are most excited to see
Avengers: Endgame this year.
In celebration of International Women's Day, Atom Tickets broke down their "
Most Anticipated Movie of 2019" survey from last year, specifically focusing on how women responded. The survey included nearly 1,000 women and revealed
"that they are big fans of adventure action and animated movies," Atom Tickets concluded. For many of us, this doesn't come as a shocker, yet there still remains a close-minded group of individuals who ignorantly believe women only enjoy rom-coms and movies of light-hearted nature.
Topping the list was none other than
Avengers: Endgame, with 60 percent saying they want to see it in theaters. It was followed by
The Lion King (47%). Third on the list was actually a tie between
Toy Story 4 and
Captain Marvel (42%), the latter of which flew into theaters today.
Captain Marvel actually holds the new record for best Atom Tickets pre-sales in 2019, but you have to imagine it'll be overtaken by
Avengers: Endgame. That said, as a standalone MCU movie,
Captain Marvel is doing quite well for itself,
taking in between $20M and $24M from Thursday night previews alone. Tracking was originally pointing to a North American debut
between $125 million and $145 million, with some analysts estimating it could fly as high as $150 million domestically. It could hit $300 million worldwide.
Atom Tickets pointed out that it's not just women "taking their kids to the movies," either. 62% of the female respondents — 45% between the ages of 18-34, 24% between 35-44, and 20% between 45-54 years old — said they don't have kids.
The survey also revealed women are most looking forward to seeing Lupita Nyong’o (
US, Star Wars: Episode IX), Kristen Bell (
Frozen 2), and Beyonce (
The Lion King) on the big screen, as well as Ryan Reynolds (
Pokemon Detective Pikachu), Chris Pratt (
Avengers: Endgame), and Dwayne Johnson (
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2) on the male side.
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.
Captain Marvel is now playing in theaters. Happy International Women's Day!
