AVENGERS: ENDGAME Star Robert Downey Jr. Says He Wants To See Ironheart In The MCU

We still don't know who (if anyone) will replace Tony Stark as Iron Man in The MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but if Robert Downey Jr. gets his way, it'll be Riri Williams, aka Ironheart...

Although it looks like Peter Parker is going to attempt to fill Tony Stark's shoes in Spider-Man: Far From Home, there's a decent chance Marvel Studios will eventually introduce a character to officially take up the mantle of the Armored Avenger.

Could that be Riri Williams, aka Ironheart? It looks like she would be Robert Downey Jr.'s choice.

Ironheart writer Eve Ewing introduced Downey during a gala at the Gene Siskel Film Center over the weekend, and the Avengers: Endgame star reportedly told attendees that he believes the young hero should be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There was actually an Ironheart spec script doing the rounds on The Blacklist last year, but that featured Stark mentoring Riri Williams and training her up as his replacement. After the events of Endgame that's obviously impossible, but the story could be reworked so that Riri suits-up after being inspired by Tony's sacrifice.

At any rate, even if Marvel does have tentative plans to introduce Williams, it's probably not going to happen for quite a while. Still, it's nice to know that RDJ has given his seal of approval.

@Spock0Clock - We'll keep it civil! Why cant we just have Rhodey be the next Iron Man and continue the Iron Man franchise? He has history and Don Cheadle is a much capable actor. Make it happen, Marvel!

@krayzeman - I agree I'd like Rhodey to get more of a spotlight before Riri comes in.

I've never read her but I get the impression people don't like the comic. Given the creative talent currently at Marvel Studios though, I'm sure they could pull it off.

@Catmanlives - apparently her first comic was bad but I’ve heard good things about the book she got after she was no longer written by Bendis

Surely she will be one of the beneficiaries of the Stark scholarship and could even use a modified version of the rescue armor.

@Repian - With Tony dead, and Pepper off raising her daughter, anything Iron Man tech-related, would obviously have to go through Rhodey. Not sure if Riri Williams is his niece in the comics, but I'd go that route, in order to introduce her.

@KingCipher - Ty Simpkins could be the new mechanic

@Matador - Those are 2 completely different people. I never got how people thought bike kid was Ty Simpkins. They don't even look alike.

@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - She's not but they already skipped over Lila completely in the comics... so I guess why not do it in the films as well.

When would they do this? I feel like people already aren't anywhere near as excited to see everyone left in the MCU as they were to see the original avengers cast. I'm still warming to Dr Strange, Captain Marvel needs work, GOTG in its current form seems to be coming to a close. They need a stronger foundation to add more characters too. Black Panther and Spider-Man can't do it alone.

Zendaya would have been perfect, honestly. Such great chemistry with Holland that could be utilized for his Iron Man hang-ups instead of (not-particularly-gripping) support role.

But such is life.

Very nice to shoot for!

But let’s talk seriously. How many bombs non-mcu is it going to take before everyone is sitting down at negotiation table plotting Tony’s Return?

2 sounds like a solid number.

Doctor Doolittle flop followed by Sherlock 3 bomb should do the trick to getting this ball moving.

@KingCipher - wait...do you actually believe Game of Shadows was a success? Critically reviewed worse than the first movie. Opened in US 20 mill lower and domestically came in under the original?

Success? Hello? Is this thing on?

I haven’t read any of her comic but from the outside looking in, I like how they handled the character. Instead of just making a new (diverse) character take over the mantle of another hero they actually created a (somewhat) new superhero. I would much more accept Miles Morales Spider-Man, Sam Wilson Cap and Amadeus Cho Hulk if they had different aliases.

That’s fine and all. But there are others I’m in a lot bigger of a hurry to see in the MCU.
