Avengers: Secret Wars was supposed to begin filming this month, but it's recently been reported that cameras won't begin rolling until early next year. Understandably, that's led to concerns that the movie could shift from its planned December 2027 release date.
The Russo Brothers may have already shot scenes for Secret Wars while work was underway on Avengers: Doomsday. Plus, with so much time to refine the script, the sequel may be a pretty straightforward three-month shoot.
During a recent Disney event overseas, the studio shared its full slate for the next couple of years, reaffirming that Avengers: Secret Wars is still dated for December 17, 2027. The image in question showed December 16, which is when it's set to arrive in select international locations.
It would make no sense for Disney and Marvel Studios to delay Avengers: Secret Wars; giving up that prime holiday spot would be madness, especially as, unlike Doomsday, the upcoming blockbuster will play on IMAX screens.
A release date change would also throw 2028 plans for X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther 3 into disarray.
Back to Avengers: Doomsday for a moment, and Loki star Sophia Di Martino has been asked about potentially reprising her role as Sylvie in the movie. As a reminder, the Loki Variant is thought to be one of Doctor Doom's Latverian Witches, and her reaction in both videos says it all...
The confirmed (or semi-confirmed, at least) cast of Avengers: Secret Wars includes Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter).
Also appearing are Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), and Noah Jupe.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.
