More Details About Marvel Studios' Plan To Reboot The MCU With AVENGERS: SECRET WARS Have Emerged

With all signs pointing to Marvel Studios rebooting the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars, new details have emerged about how Kevin Feige plans to tackle what will be a major fresh start for the franchise.

Avengers: Endgame was the perfect end to the Infinity Saga, but it left Marvel Studios in something of a predicament. Not only did they lose some of their most popular superheroes, but they had to start from scratch with a new saga which, thus far, has been far more hit-or-miss than expected.

Fans aren't overly enamoured with the Multiverse and all eyes are on Avengers: Secret Wars amid reports that it will serve as a full-blown MCU reboot.

Talking on The Watch podcast, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios author Joanna Robinson said, "We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything"

"That's not to use a Loki-ism. [They'll] prune everything that's not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever."

In other words, this will be an opportunity to put the classic versions of characters fans love front and centre - Iron Man, with or without Robert Downey Jr., for example - minus concerns about pesky continuity issues. We've previously heard the reboot will be used as a means of bringing the X-Men into the fold, a clever means of avoiding any convoluted or confusing explanations as to why there are suddenly mutants on Earth-616.

As of now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still set to be directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings helmer Destin Daniel Cretton. Hopefully, those recent reports about Wonder Man do nothing to bring an end to those plans.

Whether the same can be said for writer Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania) is another matter. Rumour has it he's been dropped from the movie, while there are even claims Michael Waldron (Loki) is no longer penning Avengers: Secret Wars

Sam Raimi, Alfonso Cuarón, and Shawn Levy are said to be in the mix to direct that movie but nothing has been confirmed. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was recently pushed back to May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on May 7, 2027.
