The last time we saw Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble on the big screen, they had come together to battle Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. The movie was a massive box office hit, grossing over $2 billion globally (becoming the highest-earning title of all-time before Avatar was re-released).
Surprisingly, Marvel Studios has yet to announce any plans for an Avengers 5, leaving fans to wonder what form that's ultimately going to take.
During a recent interview with Collider to discuss Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' release, Kevin Feige shared some insight into what's led to the apparent delay. "I think we want there to be a reasonable amount of time from the Endgame to start a new saga," he explained, "which is already underway and already started."
"And then you need time, as you did in Phase 1, to build that saga before you start bringing everyone together," Feige concluded, making it clear that the plan right now is to focus on building up this post-Infinity Saga era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That means introducing new heroes - like Ms. Marvel, the Eternals, and Shang-Chi - while laying the groundwork for the next big bad (more than likely Kang the Conqueror). Needless to say, we can't wait to see what form Avengers 5 takes, especially with hints that teams like the Dark Avengers and Young Avengers could be on their way to this shared world.
