Earlier this month, the organisers of the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, announced plans for a "Fan-Favorite" award that allows Twitter users to choose the movie they loved most from the past year. The winner won't receive an actual Oscar and the "award" is simply there to drive up interest in a show that's haemorrhaging viewers on a year-by-year basis.
Now, #OscarsFanFavorite has been followed by #OscarsCheerMoment; with just a few weeks to go before the ceremony takes place, the Academy has listed Avengers: Endgame (which, uh, came out in 2019), Zack Snyder's Justice League, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, among others, as being eligible for this no-prize due to specific fan-pleasing moments in them.
As you can see below, Avengers: Endgame's "Avengers Assemble" scene," The Flash running into the Speed Force in Zack Snyder's Justice League, the three Spider-Men swinging into action together in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Neo dodging bullets in 1999's The Matrix, and Jennifer Hudson's performance as Effie singing "And I'm Telling You" from Dreamgirls are among the "nominees."
We're not sure why these movies have been chosen or what the point is, but the winner will presumably be named during this year's ceremony either during the show or on social media.
