EXCLUSIVE: The Avengers to Usher in The Marvel Cosmic Universe

EXCLUSIVE: The Avengers to Usher in The Marvel Cosmic Universe

Marvel Studios is planning on planting numerous cosmic Easter Eggs into their ensemble superhero film for use in future projects.

Even though The Avengers is still years away from hitting theaters, Marvel fans are curious as to what the next step will be once Earth's Mightiest Heroes unite on screen for the first time. Obviously, heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor will continue to have solo film sequels; and Marvel President Kevin Feige has already publicly pushed for Black Panther, Iron Fist and Doctor Strange live action (albeit smaller budget) films. But is that enough? Once you assemble the largest superhero team ever to appear on screen, what can you possibly do to top it? Tackle the final frontier, of course.

Marvel Studios is going cosmic, and in a big way. After the magnificent showcase which was the Marvel Hall H Comic Con panel, I managed to have some face time with one of my contacts at the studio. Apparently, introducing elements such as the Infinity Gauntlet and Sword (and the Cosmic Cube) are only the beginning. If all goes according to the current plan, The Avengers will feature minor (MINOR) appearances by key cosmic beings from the Marvel Universe. The Easter Eggs won't just be pleasing to fans, but an easy way to pique interest from general audiences.

The characters being considered for inclusion are: Captain Marvel (an amalgam of Mar-Vell and Noh-Varr), Adam Worlock, Black Bolt and Nova. Several of these roles are already being written into the current film treatment, and actors are already being pursued to portray them.

Other characters that may find a way into the film(s): Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon and Eternity. The Guardians of the Galaxy may have their own team film in the works.

Now, I wouldn't be able to consider myself a Marvel fan if I hadn't asked whether the Watcher would make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The very pleasing answer I received was, "Absolutely! These movies are going to need a narrator down the road [laughs]"

Multi: Warlock usually is the villain when he first encounters a new hero or group of heroes because he never seems to be interested in explaining himself. He is usually too intent on saving whatever universe or dimension he is in at the time. It isn't until he kicks some hero ass that he slows down, explains what he is doing and obtains a couple allies. Warlock is da man. ;}

PS: Villain in what exactly?

It would be awesome if the Watcher was the narrator for the Marvel Movieverse, even if we didn't see him for a few movies it'd be great fan service.

here's MY list of the cosmic marvel movies I want to see IN ORDER!

Silver Surfer (featuring other former heralds)
Captain Marvel
Quasar
Eternals
Adam Warlock (where they introduce Thanos)

And I really really want to see them put Super Skrull in a movie sometime! A lot of people don't realize that he's so powerful that he almost qualifies as "Cosmic"

I also want to see the High Evolutionary turn up as a villain sometime. That dude is definitely a cosmic power.

Multi@ absolutley not, don't reveal your sources, keep 'em comin! and i trust you 100%. believe me i read MultiPurposePoni articles. but WOLVERINEDECADE has a point. you didn't even say you were talking to a source at first. even i was like ok who said this and where? you were at con right? you could've had it mentioned to you there in passing. ya know what sayin? i was just wondering the same thing. if said "my studio source says" then end of story. it just had me wondering. based on who said it - plans could change. i just had to back up WOLVERINE cuz i woulda posted the same question.

Multi...Dude: Forget the Korvak saga and the Infinity Gauntlet. Wheden gave the answer the other night in his panel. They are setting up the climax in the first few movies.

Whedon said just the other night he has always loved The Avengers and his favorite Avengers story was Annual #7 Starlins Mona Lisa, the death of Adam Warlock. It involves every one of those characters except Black Bolt and Nova who can easily substitute for other heroes.

It also involves Thanos aquiring The Infinity Gems but he isn't quite sure how to go about using them yet. He isn't as powerfull as he is in The Gauntlet series.

And yes I can relate to the "I ain't got time for your bullshit, get outta my way" attitude. ;}

@ Multipuroseponi: DOH! That's right. Man FOX studios is the BANE of my existence. :(

Well that's a PRETTY BIG chunk of the cosmic Marvel U right there.

Well anyway there's still a lot of other cool possibilities.
