MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS: The Secrets Behind That Second After Credits Scene Revealed

Joss Whedon and the cast of the superhero ensemble reveal a few of the secrets behind the filming of the extra scene at the end of the credits, so stop reading now if you've still not seen the film! (why not?!) [Spoilers Ahead]

On the night of the world premiere of Marvel's The Avengers in Los Angeles, Robert Downey Jr. let slip the fact that the cast were planning to assemble one more time that night in order to film an extra scene for the movie. No one was willing to give any details away about the scene, and while Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige DID eventually confirm that they had shot something, no one knew what. Until now. While many were speculating that the scene would involve everything from Ant-Man's introduction to the creation of the Vision, all it actually features is the team sitting around eating shawarma.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Joss Whedon and the cast revealed some of the secrets behind the creation of that scene. For example, to cover up his beard, Chris Evans was forced to wear prosthetics on the lower half of his face as well as a wig (much to the amusement of his fellow actors). The site caught up with the director and cast recently and Joss Whedon had this to say to Robert Downey Jr. for letting slip that they would be shooting an extra scene. "Thank you for having every reporter ask me what we were shooting!" He adds in the voice of a curious reporter, "'So I hear you’re shooting a scene?' 'I’m sure I don’t know what you mean!'" Robert's response? "You're welcome!"

Click on the link below to read more of their thoughts on filming the scene (Chris Hemsworth apparently ate so much shawarma he was close to throwing up). It's interesting to note that the scene in which Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark mentions Shawarma was actually one of many they filmed that day improvised by the actor.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: April 26th, 2012. (UK) May 4th, 2012. (US)

The Shawarma thing was actually hilarious it lasted JUST long enough for us to stop laughing and then start again. The comedic timing was REALLY good in Avengers.

It was great because, people wait after the credits for something mind blowing, so this time we got a bunch of guys eating lunch. Brilliant! Besides, we already got the Thonos ending.

Chris Hemsworth was PLOWING through those shawarmas, look on his face was priceless, no surprise he was close to vomitting lol! Him and Ruffalo were really the only 2 guys actually eating, and Mark was too busy trying to keep a straight face. Also that explains why Evans basically had a hand on his chin the entire time!

Saw it last night with the marathon. It didn't impress me as much as I thought it would. Wasn't fond of the comedy aspect but the action sequences were fantastic.

The whole audience let out a loud "Holy Shit!" when Thanos appeared, then NOT to my amazement, after hollering in amazement and excitement, the ones around me would follow up their "I came" faces with (either) "who's that?" or "Darkseid!" .....how can one really be so overly excited for something they know NOTHING about? I don't understand.

Anyway, it was good, not THE BEST, but still far from the worst. Out of 10..I say as a CBM, 8.7. Definitely felt like a COMIC as a movie, no (or very little) pretentiousness or deep underlying meanings. Which I usually would say can hurt a film, but, what would you expect here yannow? With that said, I actually respected it and liked it FOR that reason. As a film in general, because of those "missing pieces", a light 6.

All together a great popcorn flick, to be excited about, especially growing up with these character. If they were done justice or not, it's pretty damn exciting to see them all together, in "real life". :)

They went out of their way to make the Midnight release epic. They gave away tee shirts, hats, pin sets, & a limited edition print. All of the swag said "Avengers Midnight Release May 4 2012" on it. Spectacular!

@Luther o cmon this blows away TDK ( my prior favorite) and destroys the other Marvel Studios films as much as i like them... i mean cmon the "I'm always angry" scene is probably the best CBM moment of all time

@Ha1frican. I'd have to respectfully disagree. This and TDK, other than being both based on comics, are NOT alike/in the same category.

This was intended to be just that, a fun film for real comic nerds. And like I said, surprisingly enough I'm not complaining about. Though, don't get me wrong, there were a GOOD AMOUNT of cheese throughout, but was able to brush it off..somewhat.

My brother posed a question to the "I'm always angry" moment. If he was able to control his transformation, and himself as The Hulk the whole time (as the scene proposed), then why did you try to beat the shit out of Black Widow and Thor..he simply must've wanted to. haha
