In an earlier editorial I talked about much more known changes like Nick Fury, The Mandarin, HYDRA. Here I talk about changes that are more minor, origins, or made to lesser known characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jane Foster
As you all know, Jane was a scientist lady in the Thor movie. She was looking at all the weird space stuff and had quite a bit of stuff. In the comics however she is a nurse pretty much. Thor meets her because of his alter ego Donald Blake is her boss. I’ll talk a little bit about both of them. Donald Blake was his alter ego when on earth, we actually saw 2 ester eggs about it. His name tag said Donald Blake in reference to Jane's old boyfriend, and his fake ID was also Donald Blake. Also SHIELD did not believe his ID was real, it said it was fake on the screen. Coulson just let him go. So their relationship was different from the comics in that sense. Now they couldn’t do the Blake story because it would have taken to long and been boring to get a fake ego and everything. Jane being changed to a scientist? Not really a huge change. Her being a nurse didn’t really fit the story well anyway.
Darcy
Darcy is an add in to the Movies. She doesn’t exist in the comics. Many people were saying they should have had a person from the comics in her place. Maybe even Dr. Strange. Now personally I don’t mind when they bring in people that aren’t in the comics. I personally don’t think it’s a huge deal, would it have been cool to see an adaption of one of the scientists in the Comic universe? Sure but it wouldn’t have changed much.
Heimdall

Now in the comics, There aren’t any blacks in Norse mythology. So that’s the huge change here. It basically says there is a new race. Now The question here is do you care about keeping it just 1 race? It’s entirely opinion. The actor played him well, and he was cool. But do you want it to stick to the mythology/comics or not?
Whiplash
This is a hard one to do. Many people say its crimson Dynamo. Many say it’s just plane whiplash. I’m here to say its Whiplash. He had the same last name as Crimson Dynamo yes. But a different first name. Also the most recent version of whiplash is named Anton Vanko. His suit matches whiplash, and really the only reason to really think its CD is his fake ID says Boris Turgenov (another Crimson Dynamo). So pretty much the whole character was a mess in Iron man 2, nobody really can tell what are the differences because both characters originally have tons of different names, both have different versions. They pretty much made him the son of Anton Vanko who just so happens to be the name of both of them. Conclusion? They decided to go their own way with this guy.
Abomination origins
In the comics, the abomination just exposes him to more gamma radiation than the hulk does. That’s about it. In the movies, he uses a version of the super soldier (More unstable though) and then uses the blood from the hulk to become the hulk + super soldier serum. Why did they change him? It gave more of a motive for the villain. It created fight scenes that where actually interesting for the first half of the movie. The guy was able to move faster than the hulk and almost defeat him with some stark tech. Then he continued to inject more serum until he became a freak and then hulkatised himself. It made him hate the hulk and want power. So pretty much the Serum was just to make Emil more evil and more interesting fight scenes, also to tie in the super soldier serum from Captain America. Now is this a big deal? You decide whether you would have liked the original story, or a story twisted a tad to fit in the movie universe.
War Machine
There are kind of 2 origins stories here, iron man used a mesh of both. In the original one, Stark meets Rhodes, they fight battles together, and he asks him to be a personal pilot and they become friends. Eventually stark becomes an alcoholic and pretty much Rhodes takes over as IRON MAN, not War Machine. That’s the take they used, stark drunk starting to go crazy, Rhodes steels his suit. Then the next story (After Iron man comes back) Is that he essentially can’t fight all the bad guys and makes a suit for all-out battle. The War Machine. He makes a second version especially for Rhodes. In the story, Stark gets drunk, Rhodes steels his suit, they fight, he takes it to the military, and Rhodes gets it armed by HAMMER. So yet again, do you like the original origins story? Or do you like the little tweaks they used.
The Leader
In the comics, The leader is a scientist who gets exposed to Gamma Radiation. He wakes up to find he’s been turned into a green mutated… thing… With a big head on his head. In the movie, all we see is the scientist falling on the ground with the hulks blood dripping into his head as it starts to grow. Not a lot is known after that (He gets put into captivity as shown by a tie in comic) but we do know he’s the leader now. So again it’s how do you like your origins? Hopefully we will learn more about the Leader in future movies.
Adrian Killian (Spoiler)
Wow yet again back to the Iron Man franchise. Adrian Killian in the comics invents the extremes, then kills himself… wow quite the character… in the movie he makes the extremes, uses it to become a fire breathing mandarin and runs AIM. So essentially he is the mandarin. I hate this beyond belief. You decide again.
The Avengers line up
In the original Avenger, instead of Black Widow and Hawkeye we have Ant Man and wasp. Now I believe the changes were made because they didn’t think Ant Man would sell as a movie. Also he is too important a character to just get side-kicked as a hero. So the change was made in order to make money and change it up a little. Also the Avengers don’t work directly under SHIELD, however I think it was necessary for them to be brought together by SHIELD in the movies because it tied stuff together much better. We will be getting Ant Man and most likely Wasp in the Ant Man movie 2015. Also Captain America was not originally in the Avengers. Again I think they put him in because he's a popular hero, and his solo movie would sell better than Ant Man's.
Conclusion
This is essentially all the character changes I could find throughout the movies. I’m sure I’m missing a few, but hopefully I got most of them. Now time for my personal opinion. My opinion is I want to see the full character. I want to see him the way he is in the comics. I don’t care how he gets there, and I don’t care about the story that comes afterwards. But I want to see the character. That’s why I was saddened with the Mandarin and Bucky. I wanted to see them the way they are in the comics. Then do what you want with them. But we never saw the ten rings, we never saw bucky in uniform. Lots of you say the same about whiplash, which honestly I just don’t worry about it too much because he isn’t a popular villain any way. The rest of these, origins, or minor tweaks I don’t care as much about. Now Ultron I am a little worried about, it hurts Hank Pym if he doesn’t Create Ultron. I do think Joss can pull it off well no doubt, can’t wait for the upcoming movies. Hope you all enjoyed the lists.
