In a recent video interview with Access Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr., who was being honored the 25th Annual American Cinematheque Award, briefly shared his thoughts on The Avengers' praised theatrical trailer. And interestingly declaring Iron Man 3 possibly the best of the franchise, watch the video below.

"It's going to be a really, really exciting bit of storytelling," Robert said. "I won't be surprised if it's the best of the three." The 46-year-old actor, who is a standout in recently released "The Avengers" trailer, told Access he impressed to see the sneak peak. "[The trailer] turned out well," Downey Jr. said. "It's been a fun week."

I know it's too early to judge how great Iron Man 3 may be, but coming from the man who publicly shared his slight disappointment with last year's sequel, I'll take his word for it. Anyhow, Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, hits May 3, 2013!

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

Slight disappointment?! I hope you're being sarcastic. He hated Iron Man 2, he said "At least they lit me right" That doesn't like someone who was pleased with the movie, and he should hate Iron Man 2 it was balls. Marvel Studios were to concerned trying to shoehorn in too much Avengers stuff.

I want to see some footage! What happened to the sneaked out, grainey, garbled sound footage, we used to get in days of old when CBM had boobs and an edit button?
Damn Disney has good security!

@nikgrid, ha ha what a load of crock !!! FACT, I.M. 2 was a critical and box office success. It was good, better than a lot of failed CBM's like Catwoman, Elektra, Green Lantern, Ghost Rider, The Losers, Jonah Hex and Superman Returns. And please, no actor is ever completely happy with their performance. I'm sure he would say that he could have done better on the first I.M. because he is a perfectionist.

The first was the best and the second did good considering how well recieved the original did. If he thinks the third will be the best yet I say bring it on cause that makes us Marvel guy's giddy with joy.

I am so sick of the IM2 bashing. It was not the worst film in the world ever. People who use hyperbole to trash things REALLY get on my nerves because it's almost never right. Johnny Mnemonic is a bad film. Batman and Robin is a bad film. Iron Man 2 was a disappointing film but it still had plenty of great moments in it. If it really is the worst movie some of you have seen then you should thank your lucky stars, because there is plenty worse **** in the sea.

IM2 was great! (and Intruder, you couldn't run off schmegma) :P

But IM3 would be a BIG F'N mistake. that can't just be happy with something, they just gotta tarnish something good for the almighty dollar. mark my word, IM3 will suck. Actually you don't need to mark my words since probability is on my side: 100$ of CBM 3rd acts have blown.

sorry to say but yes, odds are, though if anyone can buck the trend its nolan. and since we know favreau isn't coming back, well the chances for IM3 sucking are naturally far greater b/c we have no idea who will be directing (or do we?) and there just aren't that many good directors, at least not ones elite enough to make a 3rd one worthwhile.

Batman Forever, Superman III, X-Men 3, Spider-Man 2, all shyte. X-Men 3 stings the most b/c X2 and X-Men were some of my faves.

My new motto for IM3 'till it comes out: MANDARIN OR GTFO!
@Intruder, I know wtf! IM2 was kick ass when I saw it in theaters. Sure it wasn't perfect or as good as the first IM, but some people on this site put it with Elektra and FF. Its ridiculous.

IM2 was weak, thematically speaking.
And screenwriters know how important theme is.

IM3D [?] is building up to be a solid trilogy closer. Especially since topping the previous film will be easy.

@Intruder, I'm pretty content with Shane Black as well. I love both those movies you posted haha. As a matter of fact, I just watched IM2 yesterday and it's action scenes are far superior than IM1 ones, hands down. Sure they were "quick" scenes, but there were MORE, and they were all "bad ass"-ish.

And why are people still talking about bad about IM2 telling us what was "wrong" with it? Some of you people can't just let go can you? Move the [frick] on. We heard your argument for almost 3 years now, we get it! No need to repost the same thing over and over. Talk about the 3rd film or just don't bother posting. I'm sick of seeing 'Avengers shoehorned into IM2' and "IM2 sucked" comments. When you become accurate, then you can post. I don't need to defend IM2 cause I don't have to. It's a good movie.

The climatic scene with Whiplash was like 40 seconds long. It was easier to kill him than it was having to take out the drones

RDJ = HUGH JACKMAN
IRONMAN = WOLVERINE
nikgrid
nikgrid - 10/17/2011, 9:40 PM
@Coloso FACT: All the Transformers movies were a financial success, doesn't make them good. Iron Man 2 was ok at best and RDJ said "The first one changed everything for me and with the second 'Iron Man' there were certain aspects that were dissatisfying and disappointing to me but at least they lit me right..." What do you think the certain aspects are? How about the fact he was making an Avengers prequel.

And as for the vital who was going on about being sick of seeing the IM2 criticisms, I'm sure the GL fans feel the same way.

WoW! Glowing review from a man who knows more about the making of that film than any prick on here.

But I have faith that Shane Black will make an awesome Iron Man 3 as long as Marvel stick their [frick]ing nose out of it, and let them make a film about IRON MAN, not captain america or the avengers.

Iron Man is in such need of a new approach that any decent director will do. Just present it in a formula different from Favrue's films. Iron Man doesn't really do much as Iron Man in those films. The first one is a good, solid, perfectly cast origin story. The second one starts out really good and has good characters with Rockwell and Rourke, but near the end it takes a little nose dive. Iron Man really doesn't do much as Iron Man there either. He fights whiplash in the suitcase suit, wrecks his house sparring with rhodey and then he fights Whip Monger at the end.

I'd like to see more extended sequences of Stark as Iron Man, doing more stuff in the suit but not necessarily flying action stuff. Using it differently although we may see an underwater Iron Man in Avengers.

IM2 was entertaining but it wasn't a great movie. They tried to fit in way too much and it became inconsistent IMO.

The one thing I can't stand is that they beat Whiplash by "crossing the streams" like they did in Ghostbusters.
Squaremaster316
Squaremaster316 - 10/18/2011, 12:08 PM
IM2 was the very definition of a "meh" film. Lackluster villain, shoehorned plot threads that went nowhere or were resolved with no dramatic heft whatsoever, a whopper of a deus ex machina in the element. Just a forgettable film from start to finish.
