The Avengers: Prospects High For Sequels And Spinoffs

The Avengers: Prospects High For Sequels And Spinoffs

Sure we knew one sequel was probably inevitable if the movie did well, but it seems Disney are very keen to turn The Avengers into another franchise. Click for the details..

Variety have posted an article detailing Disney's earnings and expectations over the last year and the coming one. In it Disney chief Bob Iger reveals that Disney are very keen to turn Joss Whedon's upcoming superhero team up movie into a "franchise", hoping for not only sequels but spinoff movies too.

From Variety..

Iger was "excited" about the studio's upcoming pics, which include the "Muppet Movie," "The Avengers," "John Carter," "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," "Wreck-It Ralph" and "Brave." Disney will promote the titles Aug. 19-21 at the D23 Expo, held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Iger was especially high on the prospects of "The Avengers" turning into another "franchise" for Disney, leading to its own sequels and spinoffs after next year's pic hits theaters.

Like I said, I'm sure most felt at least one sequel to The Avengers had a good chance of happening once the movie performed but at least now we know that Disney want to keep on milking the movie for all it's worth. Not that I'm complaining! So what are the possibilities for future movies? What kind of spinoffs are likely? We have heard word of a solo Black Widow movie, could a Hawkeye one follow suit? Be sure to post your thoughts in the comments section.

The Avengers has to be a trilogy and have spin offs like The West Coast Avengers maybe. But an Avengers sequel should have more characters and it doesn't necessarily have to be the Pyms, could include Ms. marvel, Luke Cage or Dr. Strange but I most definitely want to see Vision on the big screen, but for now lets wrap up The Avengers and get a trailer. Oh yeah and more villains

fvck a Black Widow and Hawkeye sequel, they work for SHIELD, make it a SHIELD spin off and slap them in as the two main characters, would make for an interesting dynamic. could go the avengers EMH route and I'd be happy.

Universal has Hulk, and that superhero exists in a continuity over at Paramount. Crazy, huh? Marvel Studios needs to get in bed with 20th Century Fox, we can see Hugh Jackman's Wolvernie sparring with Iron Man and Spider-Man like in the comics. Who's with me?

I thought it was already planned that The Avengers was gonna be a trilogy?!?

As long as they give me more Captain America solo films I can care less what else they do. I would like to see a Namor movie and a Dr. Strange film, even though I know he isn't part of the Avengers I would like to see him get some movie love.

I'm still really pissed that Evans lost all his CA:TFA muscle. He was ripped!! What a shame.

I also agree with Spidex3000, a S.H.I.E.L.D film would be really cool.

Wonder Man would be awesome! A struggling actor trying get jobs & success while saving the day from supervillians. It'd be like Entourage meets the Incredible Hulk...

@RoadDogXXIV Marvel has the rights to Hulk... i wanna see ant man and wasp in avengers but just as scientists, then have them have their own movie and be added with powers in Avengers 2

I'm fine with just a trilogy.
What if they started making Thor and Iron Man duo movies or any other Avenger in pairs.

@wenee I agree , I can see the Avengers being an ongoing franchise, it is perfectly set up to keep on going - as long as they dont [frick] it up.

1. A huge back library of good stories to mine
2. They can retire/refresh the characters by simply changing the line up - which always happens in the comic.
3. They can spin-off plenty of solo movies
4. As Marvel regains their other properties(hopefully) they can do more crossovers/team ups.

This could be the Golden Era for Marvel Fanboys.

HELL YEAH! Duo movies would be awesome! Cap needs help so just thor comes and help or vice versa or any combo like that would be so cool. And [frick] a black widow or hawkeye solo film. Those would be boring as hell. A shield movie with coulson HE and BW and fury I would watch but other than that, no thanks.

Has anybody heard anymore about the supposed Marvel film slate for the next few years (up to 2016) that was leaked a few days ago? It had Marvel properties like Dr.Strange,Ant-Man and Luke Cage as short films. If true, what does that mean? Short films attached to Blu-Ray releases such as the upcoming Shield shorts with the Thor Blu-Ray?

Im sorry but if disneys involved....their just in it to make money, they dont care about the fans....so they will most likely kill the avenger series eventually

My guess... Avengers will be a two parter so there won't be a need for another Disney/Marvel movie in 2012. There will be PLENTY of characters to spin off from... i'm guessing more than we every dreamed of.
