BATMAN UNBURIED Tops The Joe Rogan Experience To Become Spotify's No. 1 Podcast

After making its debut last week with the release of its first two episodes, David S. Goyer's Batman Unburied is now the No. 1 podcast on Spotify, overtaking The Joe Rogan Experience for the time being.

Facing perhaps his toughest foe to date, the Dark Knight has beaten Joe Rogan. Batman Unburied, a brand new podcast from David S. Goyer, has overtaken The Joe Rogan Experience as the No. 1 podcast on Spotify. The first two episodes of Batman Unburied were released on May 3, and according to Spotify's The Podcast Charts, it now sits at the top spot in many of the countries around the world.

Written by Executive Producer David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Batman v Superman), Batman Unburied takes us on a journey deep into the mind of Bruce Wayne, currently working as a forensic pathologist in the bowels of Gotham Hospital. Tasked with examining the victims of The Harvester, a gruesome serial killer preying on Gotham's citizens, Bruce Wayne is forced to face his own mental demons and overcome them in order to save the citizens of Gotham. The podcast introduces a slew of dark twists and turns with a number of classic Batman supervillains.

The U.S. version of Batman Unburied features a tremendous voice cast led by Winston Duke as Bruce Wayne. He's joined by fellow stars Hasan Minhaj as the Riddler, Gina Rodriguez as Barbara Gordon, Jason Isaacs as Alfred, and Lance Reddick as Thomas Wayne.

A serial killer terrorizes Gotham City, but Batman is not coming to the rescue. In fact, Bruce Wayne has no memory of being the Caped Crusader at all. To find out why, Barbara Gordon seeks help from Gotham's second smartest detective: The Riddler.

The Joe Rogan Experience, an incredibly popular but sometimes controversial "long-form conversation" hosted by comedian Joe Rogan, was Spotify's No. 1 podcast in 2021 so to see it dethroned by the Dark Knight is quite a feat and a promising start to Spotify's partnership with Warner Bros. and DC.

The first two episodes of Batman Unburied are currently streaming exclusively on Spotify with new episodes releasing each Tuesday on the platform. Each episode is released in nine different languages (English, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish).

Batman is a brand that needs to be carefully developed. If done right it could and should be the greatest super hero IP.

@Forthas - I keep saying this! A Bat-Family shared movie saga would definitely be a money maker. The only heroes who need solo films are Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood followed by a crossover film and then you could flirt with villain spin offs with the heroes as the "enemy" or said film. For example a Poison Ivy film with Batgirl and Robin as her villains and so on.

I listened episode 1 tonight and it’s pretty interesting so fast. Radio dramas/podcasts are underrated. I’d love to see more dramatic comic book podcasts.

@GhostDog - Likewise. I think discussion podcasts on specific comic book movies are definitely in demand. Sometimes I want to discuss films and the only outlet I have is on this site. Where as a podcast could fill that void.

@SonOfAGif - I see a lot of l YouTube channels and Tik tok accounts, with just one individual, that are comic book based but I love group discussion pods. Why I enjoyed screen junkies. A group of varying perspectives.

I really enjoy comic pop for this reason.

@GhostDog - @SonOfAGif create one. Use people from the site and just talk all things comic culture

@MyCoolYoung - I would if I could. But I think I have been blocked by so many based on my vocal advocacy for inclusion and diversity amongst comic book characters. I am a very divisive user on here and I have accepted that. It has to be someone who is under the radar and who can gradually get people to discuss uncomfortable topics that comics touch on.

@GhostDog - I agree. Not just comic book podcasts, but just storied podcasts in general are great. As a long distance runner, I like to listen to something and that feels like it has some form of progression (which music doesn't really have).

@SonOfAGif - didn't know you were that divisive. Sure I don't always agree, but I have that with a lot of users. Still I like the discussions on here anyway

@bkmeijer1 - Same man. While I’m working they’re great to put on. At the gym as well.

Im a big fan of Motherhacker and Red Frontier. Gimlet produced shows on Spotify are great.

@GhostDog - at the moment I'm listening to Critical Role, because one run on average for me is about an hour. And longer runs can get boring, so stuff like Critical Role is also just fun to listen to.

Although Motherhacker and Red Frontier are also solid, they are a bit short for me. Rather have one long one to listen to than a few short ones.

@SonOfAGif - you need different looks for a podcast. If you're being blocked then you're doing your job. You aren't being a dick you're just asking for inclusion if people can't accept that then I don't know what to tell them.

Plus controversy breed views. For what it's worth, I never felt you were divisive in the slightest

I might check it out eventually, but right now I'm spending most of my time on listening to Critical Role. Got a bunch of their episodes left, but it's nice to already have something in the library for after.

HBOMax has "Batman: The Audio Adventures", but, it's a bit on the comedic side.
I listen to the old "The Shadow" (amongst others) radio programs on YouTube. It's called The Late Late Horror Show. They have a lot of other old radio programs, as well!
