BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER - Netflix, Hulu, Apple & More Have Shown Interest In Picking Up The Animated Series

While Batman: Caped Crusader is no longer moving forward on HBO Max, the animated series is being shopped around to other platforms, and several major streaming services have already shown interest.

We recently learned that Matt Reeves, J.J. Abrams, Ed Brubaker and Bruce Timm's Batman: Caped Crusader, along with several other animated projects, is no longer being developed for HBO Max, but the series is still very much alive, and some major platforms have already shown interest in picking it up.

According to THR, the decision had nothing to do with the quality of the shows, and instead came down to "an economic and strategic issue." Basically, Warner Bros. Discovery believes it will make more money on the titles by selling them to other outlets.

We didn't expect an update on Caped Crusader's status so soon, but the trade reports that the show has received "intense interest" from Apple, Hulu and Netflix, among others.

No word on Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Toons Musical, Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie, but they are all still said to be "in various stages of development."

Details on The Dark Knight's 10-episode animated series are few and far between, but it is expected to be inspired by the classic '90s Batman: The Animated Series, even though it won't be a direct continuation. The goal of the show is to “once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

It's a shame we'll probably have to wait a little longer to see Caped Crusader than we would have if it was still heading to HBO Max, but this is definitely an encouraging sign.

@SanFranLand - I mean SANDMAN is a DC property on NETFLIX so TBF I wouldn't be all to surprised/shocked w9ith it on NETFLIX or Apple even its HULU(a DISNEY service) that'd be real weird

@Nightmare - DAMN I honestly forgot about those two TBH. I will say though your right about both, Y the Last Man was one of the last shows from the old DISNEY/Iger regime of DISNEY hence why only one season and same with SWEET TOOTH the old DC/WB regime

Discovery is so concerned w/ saving money they’re shooting themselves in the foot by continuing to cut things that will attract viewers. Batman to Hulu, Netflix or Apple? I thought the streaming wars were about creating content that grew your audience, not making money by growing other streamers audiences. How well did that work for Marvel when they were selling the rights to Fox and Sony and Universal ?

This will ultimately come back to bite them in the rear

SMH

DC is doomed

Disney about to unleash the beast of all announcements during D23, ay?

Feige presents...The Caped Crusader!

@Doomsday8888 - I don't think Feige has much to do when it comes to Disney's output outside of MS...it would be funny though.

@Spidey91 - Yeah, there's no way he'd have any control over what goes on in Hulu. Disney is so vast, and Feige only controls a portion of it.

If I end up watching a highly anticipated animated Batman show on Disney+ I'll drink to Zaslav's health.

while Netflix could be the safest choice, I want Hulu to pick it up just for the LOLs of having a DC show on a Disney-owned platform as the ultimate disrespect.

@Spidey91 - it would be more disrepectful if Amazon picks ir, first they nab they lotr tv rights and then Batman by timm

What would be safe about Netflix
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 8/28/2022, 9:24 PM
@regularmovieguy - biggest possible audience, already used to pick up DC's homeless projects (Lucifer, Sandman), they used to be basically the home for all of the Arrowverse output.

it also means it could to be on Star+ outside of the US.

Heard a theory that Discovery is actually doing a gut-job on WB and is silently planning to sell all assets of in packages to make a profit out of WB.
Kind of makes sense given the latest news.

There are a bunch of franchises worth being sold off and could ultimately, if sold off at raised market worths towards different studios could rake in a profit.

Hope they sell DC.

@AmazingFILMporg - I could absolutely see WB trying to sell off their cartoon subsidiaries like Looney Toons & Hannah Barbera to Disney; New Line to Universal and Warner Television to CBS as a whole.
