Ben Affleck Is Sounding More And More Unsure About Taking The Helm Of THE BATMAN
With Live by Night failing to live up to expectations, it sounds like Ben Affleck is more uncertain than ever about taking directing The Batman for Warner Bros. Find his comments after the jump!
Gone Baby Gone and The Town were both well received by critics, while Argo won an Academy Award. However, with Live by Night not doing particularly well either commercially or in terms of reviews, Ben Affleck has delivered what many are calling his first flop as a filmmaker. As a result, it appears as if he's more cautious than ever before about working on The Batman, especially without a strong script.
Asked by The Guadian whether or not it's his next movie, he replied: "That's the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great, I’m not going to do it." So, while he remains open to bringing the Dark Knight back to the big screen in a solo film, he simply will not do it if they can't get the story right. The fact Affleck keeps saying that about the script is very concerning, though, especially as he and Geoff Johns have been working on it for a while now.
Warner Bros. has pushed the Justice League sequel back to make room for The Batman, while the cast seems to think shooting will start within the next few months. However, Affleck is clearly cautious about delivering another disappointment, and Live by Night could be enough to put him off for good...
