UPDATE: The Batman Part II Set Photos: The Drifter Is Back In First Look At Gotham City Car Chase

New photos and footage from the set of The Batman Part II have been revealed, showing Bruce Wayne—decked out in his gear as "The Drifer"—chasing down an ambulance in a snowy Gotham City.

UPDATE: It turns out what we shared earlier was just a rehearsal for an atmospheric nighttime scene in Gotham City. You can now watch this sequence from The Batman Part II being shot in the X posts below.

The Batman Part II is currently being filmed in Liverpool, England, and we have a first look at Bruce Wayne suited up as "The Drifter." Fake snow was laid down on a bridge, with an ambulance then spotted heading across it as the incognito Batman followed (or chased it down).

As a reminder, unlike his Batsuit, his Drifter persona allowed Bruce to blend into large crowds and environments without detection in 2022's The Batman. Batman often deployed this identity when he wanted to enter a place subtly or perform surveillance without detection.

The Drifter returning in The Batman Part II isn't hugely surprising, and it seems the Caped Crusader will continue using this disguise to keep a low profile while stalking the snowy streets of Gotham City.

The movie's winter setting should make it very visually unique, and it will be interesting to see what, if any, impact that has on Batman's war on crime. Mr. Freeze remains a villain who fans are desperate to see on screen, but as of now, names like Two-Face, Poison Ivy, and Victor Zsasz are being thrown around in relation to this sequel.

There's still an awful lot we don't know about the sequel, which was recently pushed back to 2028. With over a year and a half to go before we sit down in theaters to check this one out, we'll have to rely on set leaks like these to keep us going until the marketing campaign ramps up next year.

"I think [director] Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the franchise is really fresh, and rich in terms of the narrative, but also rich cinematically," Jim Gordon actor Jeffrey Wright recently teased. "I don’t think he views this as frivolous comic book stuff, but he views it as an opportunity to explore contemporary themes through a really dynamic medium that is the Batman franchise."

"He’s also a massive fan of the franchise, hugely enthusiastic about it, and it’s deeply meaningful for him. These films, the first one and now working on this one, are films from an era that he and I, because we’re of a certain age, just revere."

Those are films of the American cinema of the ’70s – Sidney Lumet films and films that Dustin Hoffman would have been a part of, [Francis Ford] Coppola and [Martin] Scorsese," he continued. "He’s trying to use all of those as touchstones in these films that might, in other hands, not have anything to do, cinematically, with that type of filmmaking."

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script by him and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman Part II stars Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.

The Batman Part II is set to be released in theaters on October 1, 2027 February 18, 2028.

@Nonameforme - You whiners couldn't write fan fiction worth skimming over but you spend all day on comic book movie websites complaining that no director "gets it" like you do. Go start a Substack and find out how many people value your opinions or writing skills.

That snow looks grounded in reality and a vision of weather tailored for the modern audience.

Please let there be more action and less transition than the first movie. I liked the movie, but at times it got so boring. They should have edited out at least a half hour out of it.

@DocSpock - Agreed. I'm still waiting for it to be over. The least CBM of CBMs with a major character in it.

Maybe unpopular opinion but Matt Reeves isn't that great of a director to let Batman have this long of a wait. I think they should have picked a different director. I didn't even hate his Batman I liked his take just wasn't a fan of the execution and 3rd act.

I'd love it if Denis Villeneuve would do Batman one day.

@McMurdo - okay so we had our differences before but I think we found some common ground because I really like the Superman but man I seen Supergirl and it's pretty bad dude and I was bummed because Jason Momoa basically did Lobo in white face only

@blitzburgh - yeah I didn't hate Supergirl as much as everyone else, personally. But it should have been handled with more reverence for the source material. It just felt to loose. For the 2nd DCU film we needed something special.

It seems to be that he is following the ambulance rather then chasing it…

Anyway , I like “ The Drifter” identity and how they took inspiration from the likes of Year One and Zero Year for it.

Can anyone tell me why they like Robert Pattinson as Batman. He plays Bruce and Batman the exact same voice he's scrawny like what do we like about him because I can't stand him

@blitzburgh - I like his Batman voice, the way he expresses emotion with his eyes and body, I like how he moves in the batsuit. The tanky fighting style is cool without feeling stiff.
Size wise I think he's fine, he's not roided out from superhero gym, but he's also not too scrawny. Not far off from Kilmer in Batman Forever, they're lean and in decent shape. Can't fault the Bruce voice and attitude when that's a story choice and I bought into what they're doing with that, he will undoubtedly get different and familiar as we follow the character through the trilogy.

I like the Drifter suit, it's good for the incognito stuff and silly as it is keeps the batsuit on his back in case he needs to jump into action. Holds unto the idea that he's in the ground doing the base work, worked great when Nolan deployed it for the one scene in Dark Knight, which implied it's something he does at times for the same use cases as Reeves (down to keeping normal bikes in the batcave).
