IMDb Reveals Its Top 10 Movies Of 2022 And It Features A Rare Victory For DC Over Marvel Studios

IMDb has revealed its top 10 movies and TV shows of 2022, and as well as a deserved victory for DC, there's a baffling win for Thor: Love and Thunder that we're sure will generate heaps of discussion...

IMDb isn't quite as divisive as Rotten Tomatoes, but it still plays an interesting role in allowing moviegoers to share their thoughts on recent releases. Review bombing has become the norm, of course, often making it hard to take the scores featured on the site too seriously.

Needless to say, we're sure the following ranking will generate its fair share of debate as IMDb's list of 2022's top movies (and TV shows) makes for very interesting reading.

Rather than using those user scores, this ranking is instead based on the most consistently viewed pages on the site. As a result, the ranking is based more on popularity than acclaim, with only movies and TV shows that have received more than 200 million monthly page visits included in the lists below.

As a result, we wouldn't put too much stock in what you see here, especially as Thor: Love and Thunder (6.3/10) ends up ranking above Top Gun: Maverick (8.4/10). Clearly, it generated a lot more interest, though there's no way anyone can argue it's the better of the two movies, right?

We are, however, pleased to see The Batman land at #1. The movie came out back in March, and it feels like it's been largely overshadowed since despite being one of the year's best releases. We're guessing The Rock won't be too pleased to see that Black Adam didn't crack the Top 10, especially as it's such a huge hit in his eyes.

Take a look at the two rankings below.

Movies

10. X
9. Death on the Nile
8. Everything Everywhere All at Once
7. The Gray Man
6. The Northman
5. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
4. Top Gun: Maverick
3. Thor: Love and Thunder
2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
1. The Batman

TV Shows

10. Inventing Anna
9. Ozark
8. The Sandman
7. Moon Knight
6. The Boys
5. Euphoria
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
3. Better Call Saul
2. House of the Dragon
1. Stranger Things

IMDb is a public bathroom where people enter to write on the wall

@GhostDog - It was a pretty reliable before the era of the review bomb, and most review bombs are directed towards MCU projects these days. Most everything else, I usually agree with the user rating.

@soberchimera - I remember the old days slightly. It had its value back then but now...what a shame

IMDB used to be a fun place to chat about movies. But that's a long time ago. Now it's just useful to find the occassional bit of cast or crew info on movies and such. The rating since there has long been utterly useless because people just suck.

@MosquitoFarmer - Why is it no longer a fun place to chat about the movies? I've never chatted there.

@LSHF - Every movie, show, and person use to have a message board at the bottom of their page where you could discuss with people as we do here. But they took that down long ago because people were just being horifically toxic and trolling to the worst degree.

@MosquitoFarmer - Well, that's human nature on the internet for you! People do tend to be at their worst when they think they can get away with it.

Thanks for the explanation.

@MosquitoFarmer - It gets like that around here from time to time. IMDb must have been a nightmare to moderate given its scale.

Thor above Top Gun, lmao.

And The Batman is obviously the best comic book movie of the year, no contest there.

So in TV shows, relatively few people gave a damn about Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. And even with Moon Knight, way more people found Better Call Saul to be more interesting. I wonder why that would be?
