RUMOR: Warner Bros. Eyeing GODLESS Actor Jack O’Connell For A Role In THE BATMAN

Another day, another rumor relating to Matt Reeves' upcoming take on The Batman. This time Jack O’Connell (Godless, Starred Up) is the actor said to be in line to possibly replace Ben Affleck in the role.

While we all not-so patiently wait on official word from Warner Bros. relating to Ben Affleck's status as The Dark Knight and which actor could potentially replace him in the cape 'n cowl, a new rumor points to British actor Jack O’Connell (Starred Up, Godless, The Cradle) possibly being in line to suit-up as The Batman.

According to That Hashtag Show, the studio has expressed interest in the 29-year-old for a role in Matt Reeves' film, though they're not certain it's actually for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Indeed, the site cautions that they haven't been able to substantiate the rumor - though O'Connell's name was also mentioned in connection with the project by ROTF recently.

Another rumor doing the rounds this week suggested that Ben Affleck is actually interested in reprising the role now that he's out of rehab and back in shape, so it's always possible that O'Connell is up for a completely different character. Dick Grayson, perhaps?

Anyway, none of this should be given too much attention for the time being, but assuming, for now, that there is something to it, be sure to share your thoughts on Jack O'Connell as The Batman with us in the comments.

@PBIRD - Yeah, it just doesn't work for Batman. Other characters for sure, he would nail Jason Todd.

He's a damn good actor.

@Origame - I guess if you are not in love with the animated series (and frank miller) versions of Bruce. I like the man that is already a human wall. A man that is just giant in size. I have been waiting for that bruce wayne for a loooong time now.

@PBIRD - when did they say his height in that show? Because seriously, look at him next to other people. I dont even mean other heroes or villains. Just other people in the show. Hes about the same size.

I can't wait until I'm proven right. Ben Affleck will return as Batman. I've been saying it all along.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

@BoyWonder - There's just been nothing but recycled rumors for months. Meanwhile Affleck's doing something at WB and getting into shape for it. It makes no sense to recast. The future of the DCEU looks promising with Aquaman, Shazam, and WW. No reason to reboot now, especially with the dead weight of Snyder gone and since they've invested so much into Ben Affleck's Batman and are ripe for a ROI with a solo film.

@Super12 - i liked Affleck as Batman. He was able to pull off the Bruce Wayne persona too. He needs his own franchise. It can be in the same universe but also be contained to Gotham.

PBIRD

@Equivocal - I think Ben was a decent Batman (for one movie, until the writers tried to undo everything about him in the next), but a HORRIBLE BRUCE WAYNE.

O'Connell has read for the role of Bruce Wayne, as has Noah Centineo. WB/DC have been looking at actors as young as 22 for the role. I have been saying this for weeks.

This rumor was making the rounds a month or so ago, when the trades were pushing that Kit Harrington rumor...

I personally think O'Connell would make a better Wolverine, but I could see him as Wayne as well.

@L0RDbuckethead - Yep, that's linked above. The trades never went near the Harington rumor... those are tabloids.

@RorMachine - Apologies, wrong use of the word "trades".

Philip - 10/8/2018, 10:23 AM
@L0RDbuckethead - personally, I don't believe anyone of them has read for Bruce Wayne.

Although, Harington, O'Connell, Huston and Centineo all kind of look like another guy that has worn the cowl on a few occasions....

Although, if they have read for a young Bruce Wayne, I'm hoping Huston or Centineo gets it. Harington and O'Connell are too short for Batman.

L0RDbuckethead - 10/8/2018, 10:28 AM
@Philip - Jack Huston would be a great choice, but I'm pretty sure he has either declined already, or is out of the running for the role. Haven't heard much about him in the last month or so.

He was great (and probably my favorite character) in Boardwalk Empire.

SuperManes
SuperManes - 10/8/2018, 2:13 PM
@L0RDbuckethead - He's on Mr. Mercedes now, but he'll probably be murdered in a most sinister way pretty soon so he'll be free for future projects.
Philip
Philip - 10/8/2018, 2:30 PM
@L0RDbuckethead - He's a great actor, but I don't get a Bruce Wayne vibe from him to be honest. Also, by the time The Batman comes out, he'd only be about 6 years younger than Affleck was his first time around.

Depending on what they wanna do with the Batman, my picks vary.

A "younger Affleck" but still a major part of their universe? - Armie Hammer
A "younger Affleck" but now a minor part of their universe? - Robbie Amell

A direct pretend-it-never-happened replacement of Affleck? - Jon Hamm, Alex Skarsgård or Lee Pace.
A direct pretend-it-never-happened the replacement in a reduced Batman role? - Justin Hartley.
L0RDbuckethead
L0RDbuckethead - 10/8/2018, 2:54 PM
@Philip - I like all those choices, except Robbie Amell. I don't think he should be anywhere near a main player such as Batman.

I could see him as Booster Gold maybe?

I'm not real keen on the lesser Amell these days.
Philip
Philip - 10/8/2018, 3:02 PM
@L0RDbuckethead - Interesting, you're one of few people I encountered who thinks Robbie is the lesser Amell, but I can't argue with that.
But if they'd have Batman take more of a backseat in the DCEU (unlikely), someone like Robbie could be suitable.

If they decide to go with another older guy, I'm rooting for Alex. He needs a big CBM role, and he's starting to get old so time is running out. Then again, my Swedish genes might make me biased.

I guess the same thing could be said about Jon Hamm, and he's from St. Louis, so I guess I'm a bit biased when it comes to him as well.

I'm backed to being majorly hyped for the DCEU

Aquaman looks amazing
Shazam looks cool
Joker could be Oscar worthy
Wonder Woman 84 one of the most anticipated of 2019
and finally The Batman
