THE BATMAN - PART II Reportedly Set For April 2025 Shoot; We Might Be Waiting A While For Casting News

We have an update on Warner Bros' plans for Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel, which is reportedly set to begin filming around this time next year...

The Batman - Part II was originally supposed to be released on October 3, 2025, but as 2024 arrived with very few official updates amid potentially production-crippling strikes, speculation mounted that a delay may be inevitable, and the movie was recently pushed back almost a full year to October 2, 2026.

Now, we may have some idea when cameras will start rolling on the long-awaited sequel.

According to Jeff Sneider in the latest edition of his newsletter, The Batman - Part II is currently set to begin shooting in April of next year. This gives Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves plenty of time to get the script in order and assemble new cast members, but we probably shouldn't expect any official announcements regarding new actors/characters being added to the mix until this Fall.

Right now, all we have to go on are rumors, and we recently heard that Logan and The Sandman actor Boyd Holbrook is in talks to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face. This could well be the case, but, again, it sounds like we're going to be waiting quite a while to find out for certain.

When the new DCU slate was announced, James Gunn confirmed that Reeves' "BatVerse" will remain separate from the DCU, so this movie, along with Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, will be considered "Elseworlds" tales. A new actor will don the cape and cowl for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will also feature a different take on Robin - The Caped Crusader's son, Damian Wayne.

Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell are all expected to reprise their respective roles, and characters introduced in the Penguin Max spin-off series are also likely to appear.

As far as official info goes, Reeves has stated that his sequel will continue this "epic crime saga," but that's about all we have to go on.

One rumor did claim that the story will be at least partially based on Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One. Of course, the first film took a certain amount of inspiration from Vol. 1, so we assume the sequel would be more influenced by Volumes 2 and 3.

For those unfamiliar with the comic, Earth One takes place in the alternate continuity and features an updated and more realistic reinterpretation of the classic Batman origin and characters. Hush does not appear, but the later volumes do feature Clayface, Scarecrow, and a female take on Two-Face in Harvey Dent's twin sister Jessica.

Cmon let’s have Hush or the Court of Owls be the villain in this one!

@mountainman - Hush, Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, hell even Psycho Pirate. Some are more adaptable in a realistic universe compared to others, but they all need to get their due in live actions sooner rather than later IMO.

@mountainman - I feel like Hush is too similar to their version of the Riddler.

Court Of Owls would fit nicely into their super ultra realistic gritty world. And, hopefully it wouldn’t be retreading other films.

I really hope we don’t get Harvey Dent. For a film that’s criticized as imitating Nolan, I don’t think it’s wise to make the sequel Joker & TwoFace again.

(Not a Nolan die-hard. I think Begins is his best. I hope Gunn can deliver the goods)

@mountainman - hush was already plagiarized for Riddler in part 1

My hype for this movie is gone now. It seems so far away. I don’t get what the point of continuing with this series is at this point.

Wouldn't mind them making Hush or even Anarky the antagonist for this one. They feel like they would work better in a more grounded take on Batman like this.

Warner Brothers is the single dumbest studio ever. They will end up squandering the goodwill that a Penguin TV series will give them because of the time frame in between that and the next Batman film. They never should have rebooted Nolan's Dark Knight Batman but instead built on it and used the time to introduce new characters. I think it is looking like even Matt Reeves franchise is ultimately going to blow up in their faces.

So does that mean that the Boyd Holbrook in talks for Harvey Dent rumor is untrue?.

They might be having conversations with him but he’s yet to sign on the dotted line (even then , they could hold off on properly announcing him until the fall).

I hope it’s true though since I like that casting more & more..

He has the charm & charisma for the role but can be dark aswell if they decide to do the transformation in this or down the line.

@TheLobster - That's what we all said about the first movie. And it turned out that the script was probably the worst thing about it.

@ObserverIO - The script should have been rewritten and then thrown out.

@HashTagSwagg - Robert Pattinson's young Batman will be 3 years younger than Ben Affleck's old Batman when they start shooting.
