THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Has A Simple Goal For The Highly Anticipated Sequel

Sometimes superhero movies can have a radical shift in tone with each new installment but The Batman director Matt Reeves makes it clear that he wants to double-down on the grittiness of the first film.

Released in 2022, The Batman was a much-needed shot in the arm for recent Warner Bros. cinematic superhero films and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the sequel.

A recent guest on the Team Deakins podcast [via SHH], director Matt Reeves briefly touched on what his aim is for the next installment.

"I’ve had so many wonderful collaborators to work with and when you find someone who you love working with, you just wanna … ‘Come on, please, let’s keep working together … How much farther can we push it', said Reeves.

"I’ve been talking to [The Batman cinematographer Greig Fraser] about — I’m trying to write the next movie now with my partner, and we’re doing this thing — and he’s, like, going, ‘Let’s just push it farther.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, that would be really exciting to do.”

Currently, The Batman – Part II is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025, with principal photography slated to begin in Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in England this November.

There's heavy speculation that the sequel will focus on The Court of Owls, a shadowy society that has secretly controlled Gotham City for centuries. Fans should expect concrete news on the sequel to be officially released as we approach the start of principal photography this fall.

@micvalpro - they set the stage for him. Destroying the levee, water logged city, right after halloween. There's a freeze coming, everybody chill!

@micvalpro - I can imagine Mr. Freeze from Reeves' Bat-Universe with a look similar to this.

A victim of severe frostbite isolating himself inside a thermal suit. His breathing can be labored and he can be something sinister similar to Harry Warden.

@Repian - Or they can just use me and my design.

@Repian - I imagine he would look completely normal. He wouldn't be a metahuman and he wouldn't have any technology that doesn't already exist. Probably just a rando serial killer who puts body parts in his freezer, is a doctor and wants to save his dying wife who needs a transplant.

Hopefully this movie will introduce several more Batman and a few more Jokers. I don't think WB has made this confusing enough for general audiences. 🤪

Off topic: Indiana Jones and the Search for Adult Diapers is soundly beaten at the boxoffice in just its' 2nd week, by a low budget horror movie.

I would love the second movie to have a different visual tone from the first to truly distinct the stories and villains.

The first had a harsh orange palette to underline the chaos and apocalyptic feel.
Maybe set the sequel during winter and give the film a cold blue-ish look

@Blergh - I’m not opposed, but besides the winter part that’s exactly the color scheme Nolan’s trilogy followed.

Batman Begins: Orange
TDK: cold Blue
TDKR: Black

@Blergh - funny because the visuals were probably the ONLY thing I liked about the 1st film.

Opinions, opinions...

@Blergh - I've seen some fan art of a The Batman 2, poster and it's all ice blue for mr Freeze. I'd love to see this what this teams could do with MR Freeze.
