THE BATMAN: Possible New Synopsis Reveals Unexpected Catwoman Detail As Latest Trailer Is Released In 4K

A possible new plot synopsis for The Batman has been shared that potentially reveals an unexpected connection between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. The latest trailer, meanwhile, has been released in 4K.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. released a new trailer for The Batman that put the spotlight on the Dark Knight and Catwoman's dynamic. The teaser has now been followed by a synopsis (via German website Cinemaxx) which may shed some light on an unexpected connection between the vigilantes.

"Dark, stylish retelling of the Dark Knight's fight against the crime in Gotham," reads the English translation of these possible new plot details. "Gotham is being hit by a gruesome series of crimes that the police have long been unable to cope with. Bruce Wayne aka Batman does what he can, but also reaches his limits. The Penguin has a hand in it, but he is only one in the all-encompassing swamp of the city. The appearance of his childhood friend Selina Kyle alias Catwoman creates additional emotional confusion in the angry fighter for justice."

Bruce and Selina being childhood friends does make sense, especially if she was brought up by Carmine Falcone. There's clearly something corrupt about the Wayne family that The Riddler is looking to expose in The Batman, and a history between the Waynes and Falcones could be it. This would undoubtedly make the moment Selina realises it's Bruce beneath Batman's cape and cowl all the more meaningful.

In related news, director Matt Reeves has shared the 4K version of the latest trailer for the DC Comics adaptation, and to say this movie looks incredible would be an understatement. Gotham City, in particular, looks like it's been lifted straight from the comics.

I kinda expected Nygma to be Bruce's childhood friend, but I'll take this angle too. Anything this movie throws at me, no matter what, just get's me more excited.

@bkmeijer - There's a picture of a young boy who appears to be Nygma next to who appears to be a young Bruce and his father Thomas on a newspaper clipping in one of the trailers

@DarthOmega - oh yeah, already forgot about that. Again, it just gets me more excited. Combined with this trailer, it really does appear Nygma knows who Batman is behind the mask.

@DarthOmega - I think the Wayne Foundation was a charitable organization and it really provided children to the owl court. The orphans of the Wayne family. Young prodigies trained to serve the court in the future. Edward was one of the orphans and after years serving the court, he decides to defect.

@bkmeijer - I really feel like this one will be special.

@Repian - So we really could be getting the Court of Owls? Damn, I get little chills thinking about this. Lol. Damnit, I don't want to get my hopes up, but everything I see of this film has me hyped. Damn near child like enthusiasm. The cinematography alone is stunning.

@Repian - that sounds amazing. I'd add that it would make an interesting angle if Wayne's did it unknowningly though.

Either way, it really does seem like Nygma is out to prove an undercity conspiracy involving the Court of Owls. Not just to the police, but also to Bruce to show that Nygma is the smarter one.

@bkmeijer - That would be a new take that also is inspired and being borrowed from Tommy Elliot aka Hush, who was the original childhood of Bruce.

@DarthOmega - Which ones? We've got three and I hadn't noticed anything like that so far.

@NinnesMBC - true. As long as they don't repeat the same mistakes as the Hush animated movie

I love it! I wonder why that wouldn't have been revealed in the first synopsis, or even during DC Fandom? Oh well. The quicker you can establish their relationship and chemistry, the better.

@DarthOmega - couldn’t agree more. I need to stop coming to this site though. I read so many Spider-Man articles and comments that predicted the entire thing that I probably enjoyed it a lot less than everyone else I’ve talked to seemed to. I don’t want to spoil The Batman

@Shivermetimbers - Yeah man. No matter where I went someone was posting leaks, and screenshots, and using it as thumbnails. I remember randomly scrolling through YouTube, and some Donkey decided to put Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire's scene right in the thumbnail. Below it was Matt Murdock. I actually clinched my fist in anger. An overreaction for sure, but damn it pissed me off.

I should've tried harder to avoid spoilers.

@Shivermetimbers - nah it’s not just you No Way Home isn’t anywhere close to as awesome as people here will have you believe. It was fun, but too stupid to be more than just fun. But the entire plot for NWH leaked months prior to release so we all knew the plot forever ago and it was 110% accurate

Wait, is Selina a childhood friend of Bruce or Oswald?

Anyway, so far she looks and acts the most comic accurate we ever got in live action...a shame the usual suspects are already complaininh about "Warner is pushing her as the lead of the movie to push the liberal left agenda, and having a woman in this movie is ruinning their childhood, etc"

@TheHumanSpider2 - buddy for your sanity, you have to get off Twitter. I’ve not seen anyone say such things regarding Selina in this film, nothing but hype and praise, but I’m not in Twitter so.

I know the name of the movie isn't "Catwoman". That being said I still really hope they spend some time diving into the back story of this character. And while this movie already feels overstuffed with characters and possible mysteries and plotlines and plot twists, (court of owls, anyone?) there's a LOT I don't need to see on screen in a Batman movie for the umpteenth time. Michelle Pfeiffer aside, we've never really gotten a proper, "comic book canon" (ugh! THAT phrase again!) Catwoman origin story on screen. It would be nice to see her story on screen in a way that at least tries to be reflective of the comics she comes from. Just sayin'...

And this will ALWAYS be a fun guilty pleasure of mine. Fight me. Actually, don't.

They're just about to explore this in the comics too in a similar way to how Marvel retconned MJ and Peter to have had a secret past in Spider-Man: Parallel Lives, Bruce and Selina will be revealed to have kinda been in each others lives since childhood in Tom King and the late, great John Paul Leon's Batman/Catwoman Holiday Special (due out in January).

It also makes a particular kind of sense in a movie like The Batman.
Selina Kyle is the daughter of Gotham mob boss Carmine Falcone who, in the comics had a past with Thomas Wayne (Dr. Wayne saved his life as a boy).

I feel that kind of detail regarding Bruce and Selina's bond was better to have remained in secret until the movie came out. It is a little spoiler-y.

But reading some comments here it appears that either the movie is gonna end up filling in a coincidental plot point of an upcoming comic book or the author Tom King is drawing from this.

Does not everyone know that Selina Kyle is the daughter of Carmine Falcone in the comics?

There are a lot of great stories on how Carmine loves Selina, and cares for her deeply, while also really hating Cat Woman. Its an awesome dynamic and one I look forward to seeing in The Batman (and beyond).

Everything about this movie is HYPE!
