THE BATMAN: Robert Pattinson Talks Challenges Of Finding The Hero's Voice...And His Disastrous First Attempt

Robert Pattinson has talked more about finding the right voice for his version of the Caped Crusader in The Batman, admitting that his first attempt only lasted for a couple of weeks on the movie's set...

Batman's voice on screen has always been a major point of contention for fans; some actors sound exactly the same, while others sound like totally different people (Christian Bale, for example). Based on what we've seen from The Batman, Robert Pattinson has found a perfect balance, but that wasn't always the case.

Talking to Jimmy Kimmel, Pattinson explained that he initially crashed and burned by deciding to adopt a "whispery" voice as the World's Greatest Detective.

"I wanted to do a radically different thing to all the other Batman [actors] and I started in a kind of, I just thought that because everyone has this kind of gruff, gravelly thing, I'm like, 'I'm going to do the opposite and going to go really whispery,'" the actor explained. "And I tried to do it for the first two weeks and it just looked absolutely atrocious. And they told me to stop doing it."

"I found out from Nick, who was putting me in the suit everyday, that's what Christian Bale did on Batman Begins as well," Pattinson continued. "And if you listen to the first Batman Begins teaser trailer, you can hear the original voice, and I only found this out a couple of weeks ago. So, [it's] kind of interesting." As for when he found the right voice, he added: "You can feel when it feels right. You put the suit on and you have to speak in a certain way."

There's a lot of positive buzz surrounding Pattinson's Batman, and it feels like the actor could prove to be the best Dark Knight to date. Reviews and social media reactions will land on February 28, so there's not too much longer to go before we find out whether the movie is as incredible as it looks.

As for Pattinson's "bat-voice," you can have a listen for yourselves in a recently released clip by clicking here.

The Batman is set to be released on March 4.

Not gonna lie this movie looks sexy as frick. I really hope Reeves didn't really mean what he said about wanting to make his Batman realistic and embraces the supernatural elements

@Nemesis17then - Grounded =/= Realistic. The planet of the apes movies were not realistic, but they were grounded.

@ComicBookPsycho - Nah I don't think it has anything to do with any distinction between grounded and realistic. The fact is Reeves flat out said he wouldn't do a character like Freeze without taking away some of the fantastical elements.

I'm not getting my hopes up for supernatural characters, I've lowered my expectations.

@ComicBookPsycho - Except he said he doesn't want to lean to the fantastical side so to him grounded=realistic

@Nemesis17then - Still not totally convinced though. That scene in the trailer where he's banging on the window at the station, especially as it feels like imo they've gone out of their way to show how brutal this Batman is. Hopefully that's not actually in the film. If that had been Bale the window would have cracked big time.

I think the idea that the Batman voice has to be gravelly is overly complicated. Conroy is in a class of his own as he has the literal perfect voice for it and what everyone imagines when they hear Batman. That being said, I think the others who do it best find a balance between a low deepness and a smooth delivery.

@BlackBeltJones - I think that Afflecks voice was the best (among the batman movei actors). He had a good voice both when he didn't use the voice modulator and when he used it.

@BlackBeltJones - Conroy made both characters sound distinctly different also. It seems to go all the way back to Keaton, but no one as of yet has tried having just 2 different voices without all the gravelly raspiness.

@BlackBeltJones - Conroy had the perfect voice for it but he's been pretty unimpressive as of late honestly.

"and going to go really whispery"

Probably would've resulted in yet more Daredevil comparisons. Charlie Cox did that kinda whisper talk thing occasionally on Daredevil. I would actually be interested to see what Pattinson was going for here. Hopefully they make the special features!

@Nightwing1015 - I thought the whisper he did was a good way to differentiate from Batman’s voice.

@Nightwing1015 - I don't think Daredevil really has a different persona the way that Bruce / Batman worked. More like Daredevil was just Matt with anonymity.

I like his voice, but it doesn't mean I would have been disappointed if they went for a voice modulator. If they had done that they it would've also been a matter of finding the right balance for that too.

After Good Time and The Lighthouse I'm rooting for the dude in this role.

Batflecks voice was the best, Bales the worst. Battinson sounds decent.

@Spawnnn - Tbh, Bale's Batman ages poorly. Whether it's the fight choreography or throat scrapping voice. His Bruce Wayne is great though

@Spawnnn - Batflecks voice has been the best live action Batman voice. The vocal changer was genius. 👍

While I apreciate they went for the "realistic" aproach with the voice modulator with Affleck (especially after the Bale disaster), Batman should sound naturally intimidating.
And is not something imposible to do, Keaton and Bale (in Begins) did it.

I like it the way Conroy approaches it. Batman's voice is Bruce Wayne's natural tone, Bruce Wayne's voice in public is the one he puts on. Higher, more jovial.
