Deadline has learned that Clancy Brown (Thor: Ragnarok; Justice League) has joined the cast of The Penguin as the mob boss Salvatore Vincent Maroni.
He joins a cast headlined by Colin Farrell as the titular villain, with Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell in key supporting roles.
While further plot details are unavailable, Sal Maroni is a longtime enemy of Batman and also the one responsible for permanently disfiguring Harvey Dent, transforming him into Two-Face. Now, as far as we know, Dent hasn't been cast in this series just yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if Matt Reeves and company had some sort of plan for the one-time district attorney of Gotham City.
Brown is, of course, best known to comic book movie fans for his voice role as Lex Luthor in a number of DC Animated Universe film and television properties. He also voiced Surtur in the Marvel Studios blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok, and reprised the part in an episode of What If...? last year. His more prominent live-action credits include, but are not limited to, The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, Billions, Promising Young Woman, Dexter: New Blood, Daredevil, The Punisher, The Flash, and the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4.
The Penguin is planned as an eight-episode miniseries, set to launch sometime in 2023/2024, and will be a direct follow-up to the events of 2022's The Batman, presumably bridging the gap between the first film and The Batman Part II, which is slated for release on October 3, 2025.
