Cristin Milioti (The Resort, Palm Springs, Made For Love) has signed on to play the female lead in the planned HBO Max The Batman spin-off focusing on The Penguin, and it looks like ol' Oz is going to have some competition when it comes to establishing himself as Gotham City's new crime boss.
Deadline reports that Milioti will play Sofia Falcone.
The ruthless daughter of Carmine Falcone was introduced in the pages of The Long Halloween, before returning for Batman: Dark Victory as the serial killer known as the Hangman. She became obsessed with avenging her father's death at the hands of Two-Face, so there's a decent chance her arc in this series will take inspiration from the comics in that regard - possibly switching her target to Oswald Cobblepot.
According to a brief character outline, Sofia will be "fighting with The Penguin for control of the city."
Colin Farrell is set to reprise the role of the villain who will come to be known as The Penguin, with Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Lauren LeFranc (who is also on board as writer and showrunner), and Craig Zobel, who is set to direct the first two episodes.
Farrell recently revealed some intriguing new details about the show during an interview to promote The Banshees of Inisherin.
"It starts about a week after The Batman ends," the Irish actor confirmed. "So Gotham is still somewhat underwater." "I read the first script of the first episode and it opens up with [Oswald Cobblepott] feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office," he continues, "which even just that alone when I read it I was like, 'Ahh, geez.'"
Though Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight probably won't appear, The Penguin (working title) is expected to at least partially set-up the plot of The Batman 2.
