While Matt Reeves Is WB's First Choice For THE BATMAN, Two More Directors Wait In The Wings

Matt Reeves has an offer and is in talks to officially sign up to direct Ben Affleck's Batman movie. However, WB has two other directors they'll turn to if the deal falls through - Ridley Scott and...

Deadline broke the news last week that Matt Reeves (50) is in early talks to helm WB and Ben Affleck's Batman movie and it seems everyone is rashly taking it as a done deal.  It's not entirely foolhardy, as deals are usually completed and contracts are signed once negotiations reach this stage.  However, every once in a while, talks break down and the studio or talent may choose to walk away.  If that occurs here, The Hollywood Reporter has stated that WB will then turn to Ridley Scott or Fede Alvarez.

Alvarez (39) and Scott (79) are interesting choices as one is just embarking on what looks like a very promising Hollywood career while the other is an established legend.  Of these two choices, which one is more likely to want to stick to the script already written by Affleck and Chris Terrio?

Warner Bros.' standalone Batman movie will star Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth and Joe Manganiello as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. Filming was originally scheduled to begin this Spring/Summer before reports of script issues emerged and Affleck decided that the film would be better suited with someone other than its lead actor directing.
