Today marks 75 years since the original Black Canary, Dinah Drake, made her debut in the pages of Flash Comics #86, and Jurnee Smollett - who played the modern incarnation of the hero, Dinah Laurel Lance, in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn - has taken to Twitter to mark the occasion.

Smollett shared a previously-unseen production still of Dinah belting out a tune in The Black Mask's club.

It was announced last year that that a Birds of Prey spinoff focusing on Black Canary was in the works for the HBO Max streaming service with Misha Green on board as writer, but updates have been few and far between since. Smollett is rumored to reprise the role for the Batgirl movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We still know very little about the Black Canary show, but Green Arrow fans are hoping Warner Bros. uses the opportunity to introduce a new version of Oliver Queen, and there are rumors that Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress might also put in an appearance.
