Today marks 75 years since the original Black Canary, Dinah Drake, made her debut in the pages of Flash Comics #86, and Jurnee Smollett - who played the modern incarnation of the hero, Dinah Laurel Lance, in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn - has taken to Twitter to mark the occasion.

Smollett shared a previously-unseen production still of Dinah belting out a tune in The Black Mask's club.

It was announced last year that that a Birds of Prey spinoff focusing on Black Canary was in the works for the HBO Max streaming service with Misha Green on board as writer, but updates have been few and far between since. Smollett is rumored to reprise the role for the Batgirl movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We still know very little about the Black Canary show, but Green Arrow fans are hoping Warner Bros. uses the opportunity to introduce a new version of Oliver Queen, and there are rumors that Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress might also put in an appearance.

@MyCoolYoung - I remember a one season show with her and her siblings, the oldest had to raise them, first ep was them coming home for the first time after their parents’ wreck or funeral. Too sad for a sitcom I guess. Anyway I think they were her real siblings, they all had that creole look. Speaking of creole my siblings and I loved her on Eve’s Bayou. Then she was gone and suddenly she was grown, and fine as all get out, on some Tyler Perry movie. I didn’t eat it cuz I was traumatized by adultery so I skipped triggers for a while, but man… how did the olsens come out so scrawny😂😂 they gave it all to scarlet witch🤷🏾‍♂️No complaints

She was easily the 4th most interesting character in a rather forgettable movie… but hell, why not? It’s WB after all.

She was alright. I could watch her again. BoP wasn't a bad movie overall. I kinda dug Huntress too.

Off-topic which is ironic since dinosaurs and jet planes are off topic for this website, but since they cover them and you don’t cover them closely enough for me, let me (mostly) address one of the two. Top gun Maverick. 393 domestic third weekend. 747, of all numbers, worldwide. Yes. This movie stands a very real possibility of passing $1 billion. The only thing I care to say about Jurassic World at the moment is that it did open in China, not that it is making a ton with Covid over there, but it’s not hurting for it. I’ll be glad to see any movie Pas 1 billion, maybe they both will who knows but I definitely do not see Jurassic World having the legs of top gun. Why would I? Top gun 2 is a phenom. But between foreign and domestic things have a way of balancing out. 393 Dom, 354 For, So it’s definitely going to pass 400 foreign. Let’s say reaches 500. Or even comes near it. Domestic will make up the rest and more is my guess. I’m going with the neighborhood of 600, like a 5x multiplier from the OW give or take Memorial Day. All Jurassic World has to do is keep playing like a dinosaur movie, and get I’m predicting it stops in the 900s. And top gun Maverick, closer to 1.1 billion.

I have never been a fan of this character. Her 'super power" seems a bit silly to me!

I dont know if it was because it came out in that weird period between pre and post pandemic, but I remember little to nothing about this movie.

Well the character you played in no way resembled the personality of the character from the comics but sure take a bow.

Casting her as Black Canary was like some FOX X-Men crap. As long as her name and power set is the same as the comics, it doesn’t matter to them if her appearance, personality and motivations are completely different.
