Though Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) proved to be divisive among fans of the DC Comics version of the team, most seemed to agree that the individual characters had a lot of potential, and the cast came in for a lot of praise.
We recently found out that Jurnee Smollett will reprise the role of Dinah Lance for a Black Canary HBO Max spinoff, but there's been no word on plans for Birds of Prey's other standout, Huntress.
During an interview to promote her new Netflix actioner, Kate, Helena Bertinelli actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead says that while she still hasn't heard anything about a potential return, she loves the character and hopes for an chance to suit-up as the lethal vigilante again.
“If it came together in the right way, it would be so much fun,” Winstead tells THR. “I know that Jurnee [Smollett] is doing a Black Canary movie, which I’m so excited for. She’s amazing and she’s going to kill that, so I can’t wait to see where that goes. I don’t know if that’s going to involve Huntress or not, but I love that character and I love the version that we were able to create in Birds of Prey. But I also know there are lots of different versions and iterations of Huntress that have been out there before, whether it be in TV or comic books. So there’s lots of different places she could be taken. If that’s with me, that would be really cool, and I’d love to see where that goes. But I’m also happy to watch whatever direction it goes in.”
A Black Canary movie seems like an ideal opportunity to reintroduce Huntress, but if that is something Warner Bros. was considering, we assume Winstead would have been contacted by now. Of course, she may have been and is simply trying to keep it under wraps!
If and when Huntress does return, let's hope she's sporting a slightly better costume (you can check out some official concept art here).
