BLACK ADAM Is Getting A Series Of Comic Book One-Shots Focusing On Members Of The Justice Society

DC Comics has confirmed plans for a series of comic book one-shots focusing on Black Adam's Justice Society, and details on the first of those - revolving around Hawkman - can be found after the jump...

Black Adam will finally arrive in theaters this October, and DC Comics is set to launch a series of one-shots starting in July which will put the focus on the Justice Society. In the movie, that group will be made up of Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom-Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and the first issue highlights the latter.

According to Comics Beat, the 48-page Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Hawkman will feature a main story by writer Cavan Scott and artist Scot Eaton, while there will also be a backup tale revolving around the mysterious Adrianna Tomaz, a.k.a. Isis, by writer Bryan Q. Miller and artist Marco Santucci. Artist Kaare Andrews illustrated the cover for the issue.

"Long ago, Hawkman was the leader of the Justice Society, but what is he now? Still a hero, or another relic in a museum?" reads the solicitation text. "Everything changes when he finds himself haunted by not only the past, but also the vengeful spirit of a wayward thief. Will this Gentleman Ghost be the death of Hawkman or will he deliver a warning from beyond the grave?"

"Also in this issue: As a pivotal moment in the life of Teth-Adam and his son Hurut begins to unfold in ancient Kahndaq, modern-day Kahndaq meets a new hero - antiquities professor by day, 'cultural recovery specialist' by night, Adrianna Tomaz. And unfortunately for Adrianna, she’s about to “liberate” a sacred totem from the wrong interested party - Intergang!"

Black Adam star Aldis Hodge has shared his reaction to the news - along with the issue's cover - on Instagram, and he's understandably excited to see his take on Hawkman in a comic book.

Black Adam - The Justice Society Files: Hawkman arrives in comic book stores on July 5, while the movie itself will blast into theaters (following a recent release date delay) on October 21.

How about DC gives the JSA another ongoing?
It has been over 10 years since their last ongoing series! And don't do with them what they did with the Legion... I've got all the original golden age in my All Star Archives and got all the post-zero hour JSA stories they deserve another ongoing.

Well let's hope Dwayne Johnson stays on good behavior and they don't cancel this one

@TheAcuario - oh nothing to do with DJ, just making a joke about the recent stuff around folks like Ezra Miller and Barry Keoghan (the two of which are wildly different cases but just making a joke)

I'm super excited to see Hawkman. Aldis Hodge is fantastic and a great casting - and I usually can't stand unnecessary race-changes to established characters. It's so pandering and disrespects the fanbase. But this one probably falls well within the acceptable range on the chart (the more popular a character is the more sacrilege changes to their appearance are).

Makes me think of this hilarious Toast to Green Lantern sketch with TJ Miller:
