When Justice League was released to overwhelmingly negative reviews, it appeared that was it for Henry Cavill in the DC Extended Universe.
The actor, who had been unable to shave his moustache (grown for his Mission: Impossible - Fallout role), worked on reshoots with facial hair, leading to a hideous CG jawline that made Cavill the subject of ridicule. Reports of clashes between him and the studio followed, including a failure to come to terms on suitable compensation for a cameo in 2019's Shazam!.
With no Cavill, that movie delivered a faceless Superman appearance that disappointed fans. Peacemaker followed suit, showing heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Man of Steel hidden in shadow, though the HBO Max series did at least enlist Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa as The Flash and Aquaman, respectively.
Now, word from recent test screenings (via a number of reliable online leakers) suggests that this October's Black Adam will also feature a faceless Superman cameo. Fans have dreamed of the two characters crossing paths for years, but not if the Man of Steel is only shown from behind or the neck down!
If recent rumours about The Flash are any indication, that movie will wipe Cavill's Superman out of existence and replace him with Sasha Calle's Supergirl, so what the point of this cameo will be is hard to say.
Interestingly, shortly after these claims about an appearance from Superman in Black Adam started doing the rounds, Dwayne Johnson Tweeted out the following:
From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-adventure Black Adam under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods - and imprisoned just as quickly - Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.
Johnson stars alongside Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui (A Million Little Things) as Amon, and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond) as Dr. Fate.
Black Adam will electrify audiences in theaters when it's released on October 21, later this year!
