Some good news for Black Adam, as Warner Bros. and New Line's DC Comics movie has finally secured a release date in China!
Black Adam has done something Marvel's Phase IV has not been able to do over the past couple of years by landing a release date in the Middle Kingdom, where it's set to hit theaters on November 11th!
With Dwayne Johnson being such a huge, incredible star in China, the superhero film is expected to do at least between $95 million and $130 million, which should easily put the movie over $500 million at the global box office.
While the movie is down to 39% to Rotten Tomatoes, it does boast a huge 90% positive audience score with over 2,500 verified ratings. This is the highest positive audience score for a solo DC movie since The Dark Knight back in 2008. It also grossed over $67 million stateside and $75 million internationally, which puts it a little higher than the analysts' predictions on Thursday.
Black Adam held its world premiere in Mexico City on October 3, 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States on October 21, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for the cast performances, action sequences and technical aspects, but criticism of the plot and antagonist.
In the United States and Canada, Black Adam was released alongside Ticket to Paradise, and was projected to earn $58–68 million from 4,402 theaters in its opening weekend. The film made $26.7 million on its first day, including $7.6 million from Thursday night previews, besting the opening day of Shazam! ($20.4 million). It went on to gross $67 million during the opening weekend, the highest of Johnson's leading career.
Outside the United States and Canada, Black Adam earned $73 million from 76 countries over its first five days of release. It had the third-highest opening for a Warner Bros. title in Latin America during the pandemic era. In Malaysia ($2.2 million), Indonesia ($1.4 million) and the Philippines ($1 million), it had the highest opening for a Warner Bros. title during the pandemic. Taiwan ($2 million) had the biggest opening a Warner Bros. film in 2022 and the second-biggest of Johnson's leading career. In Brazil ($4.9 million) it had the second-biggest opening for a Warner Bros. film during the pandemic, while also going on to generate the fifth-biggest opening ever for a Warner Bros. title in India ($3.5 million).
In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam was bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Black Adam. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Black Adam has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.
