Anthony Hopkins Reacts To Oscar Win And Pays Tribute To BLACK PANTHER Star Chadwick Boseman

Legendary actor Anthony Hopkins (Thor: Ragnarok) slept through last night's Academy Awards as he's home in Wales, but he's now reacted to his "Best Actor" win for The Father. Check out the video here...

Many of you will be familiar with Anthony Hopkins' work in the Thor franchise (and HBO's Westworld), but his career has been a long and varied one. After winning the "Best Actor" Oscar for his iconic portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of The Lambs almost 30 years ago, he landed the same award last night for his extraordinary work in The Father

However, viewers of the Academy Awards were left confused by the lack of an acceptance speech from the actor. That's because Hopkins was unavailable as he's currently back at home in Wales (can you blame him for not staying up all night?), and he's now shared his thoughts on his win via Instagram.

"Here I am in my homeland in Wales," the legendary actor says. "At 83 years of age, I did not expect to get this award, I really didn’t. I’m very grateful to the Academy."

He also paid tribute to late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who was nominated in the same category for Ma Rainey's Black Bottom: "I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early. I really did not expect this, so I feel very privileged and honored."

In the video's caption, Hopkins also thanks The Father, director Florian Zeller, his wife, and family.

Check out Hopkins' full reaction below and see the full list of winners here.

I mean, yeah...really would've been nice if Chadwick had gotten the gong.
But with the biggest of respect, having these awards aren't indicative of success. Jesus Gary Oldman only won one a few years ago. Peter O'Toole had 9 nominations without a win.

@LittleSween - True. I don’t know if Chadwick even would have been that into it 🤔 He seemed way more interested in the artistic aspect than anything else. That said it’s just sad knowing that he’ll never win one now 😞 And it was all just really awkward because they definitely did best picture early so they could have Best Actor last, anticipating like most people that Chadwick would win.

Didn't watch the oscars, didn't have much of an attachment to any of the nominees. I guess for this one I was rooting for Riz Ahmed, would have been nice to have a Muslim actor win, and he gave a hell of a performance

I watched The Father last week. Sir Anthony acted his ass off. He’s among the best actors ever to live.

This man is the perfect Odin. Makes you fear him when he's mad and also makes you heart warming with his words of wisdom.

@Shroombeast - Same. Honestly feel like there's just way more important stuff going on these days.

[frick] the Oscars honestly. Now Anthony Hopkins's win, Chadwick Boseman legacy and even Chloe Zhao's important win are all overshadowed by horribly produced show and trying to bait people into an emotional moment.

@Kumkani - yeah, they clearly thought that Boseman was going to win, considering they ended on Best Actor instead of Best Picture. Academy (once again) fell flat on their faces.
