BLACK PANTHER Makes History By Picking Up A Golden Globe Nomination For Best Picture - Drama
We still don't know if The Academy will show Marvel's critically acclaimed Black Panther any love, but it has received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Picture! Find out which other CBMs picked up nods.
The nominations for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, and CBM fans will be delighted to hear that Ryan Coogler's acclaimed Black Panther scored a nomination for Best Picture - Drama.
The Marvel Studios blockbuster will go up against BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, If Beale Street Could Talk and A Star Is Born. Unfortunately, Coogler didn't score a Best Director nod, but Kendrick Lamar's "All The Stars" will vie for Best Original Song, as will Ludwig Göransson's compositions for best original score.
This is another first for T'Challa's groundbreaking solo outing, as no superhero film in the history of the Golden Globes has ever been nominated for Best Picture - Drama. Deadpool was previously nominated in the Best Musical or Comedy category, however.
In addition, Sony's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse received a nom for Best Animated Feature along with Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Mirai and Ralph Breaks the Internet.
That about does it for comic book or sci-fi movies in the major categories, but there may still be a few nominations of interest. Click HERE for a full rundown.
The 76th Golden Globe Awards will air on January 6 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel and air on NBC, with Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh hosting.
