BOX OFFICE: BLACK PANTHER Likely Clawing Its Way To $400 Million Domestic By The End Of The Weekend

The updated numbers are in for Black Panther after a very successful Friday and it appears as if we can expect the Marvel movie to have another massive weekend. Hit the jump for what we know so far...

Deadline reports that Black Panther will likely earn around $101.5 million at the North American box office this weekend. That's a drop of only 50% and the Marvel movie has been put on track to hit this figure after a solid $28.4 million Friday. However, the trade notes that it's entirely possible the Ryan Coogler helmed release will do even bigger numbers because there's still so much interest in it.

Black Panther now has the fourth best second weekend ever behind The Avengers ($103 million) and the second-best of all-time for the pre-summer period. The movie passed the $300 million mark yesterday and analysts believe it should top $400 million by the end of the weekend. It should also pass the total made by Thor: Ragnarok in around eight or nine days of release which is mind-blowing.

How high will Black Panther ultimately go? We don't know but there's not an awful lot of big competition coming in the next few weeks and we still don't have updated overseas figures. The movie cracking $1 billion seems highly likely, though, and that's a very good start to 2018 for both Disney and Marvel Studios. Are you watching Black Panther again this weekend? Setting records with critics, box office and the GA. I would have a hard time arguing against someone saying this is the best superhero film ever. Although it is a solo film, I believe it has a grandness to it like the first Avengers. IW will be so massive due to the build up off quality characters over the past ten years. Just think, everybody will have a favourite MCU character in it.

@TimberKing - Yep, IW will be a juggernaut.

A film where the choices of favourite character are so wide and varied is a good film. Means every character is used well and not omitted.

CW was an example of this. You can pick almost every character in that film as favourite as they all have their moments to shine.

@kylo0607 - Out of all they directors out there, I believe the Russo's were the right choice due to their past track record with these heroes. Also I think they know how to raise the dramatics.

Perhaps it’s not a good idea to ignore certain portions of the audience. Or perhaps you do, get all that frustration pent up, and then have crazy box offices occasionally. Nah just expand the whole audience and serve them well.

Better than even the most optimistic hopes I heard. Wakanda forever.
