BLACK ADAM Poster Recreates One Of The DC Comics Anti-Hero's Most Iconic Comic Book Covers

A new Black Adam poster has been revealed that shows star Dwayne Johnson recreating an iconic comic book pose as the DC Comics anti-hero sits atop his throne. Take a closer look at that after the jump...

Black Adam is a little over a month away from arriving in theaters, and Dwayne Johnson has just shared an awesome new poster for the DC Comics adaptation.

Recreating an iconic piece of comic book imagery, the anti-hero sits on his throne and looks every bit the badass doing so. This matches up with a very early piece of concept art from Black Adam and is exactly the sort of thing likely to get comic book fans excited about the character's big screen debut.

After all, it's been a long time coming and Black Adam definitely has the potential to turn the DCEU as we know it on its head.

During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Atom Smasher actor Noah Centineo shared high praise for The Rock. "Dwayne [Johnson] is 99 percent more present than most people," he says. "They say don’t meet your idols - not true with Dwayne."

Those comments have previously been echoed by Dr. Fate himself, Pierce Brosnan. Last year, he said, "It's an ensemble piece, Black Adam. You have Dwayne, who's at the pinnacle of his fame and fortune and success and popularity. He is magnificent as Black Adam."

All eyes are on Johnson as he embarks on his first superhero movie role, and it will be very interesting to see how Black Adam fares in the midst of so many changes at Warner Bros. Discovery.

From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action-adventure Black Adam under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods - and imprisoned just as quickly - Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.

Johnson stars alongside Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I've Loved Before) as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life) as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Ishmael, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets) as Cyclone, Bodhi Sabongui (A Million Little Things) as Amon, and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond) as Dr. Fate.

Black Adam will electrify audiences in theaters when it's released on October 21, later this year!

Ahhh except he’s not tyrannical ruler in this version so him on a throne doesn’t really make sense

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Exactly. He doesn't look the part either. The comic photo is way more menacing.

The more I see ads and tv spots for this the more it feels like a parody of the character.
Just please don’t try to include a people’s elbow or the rock bottom in the fight scenes.

It's so cool that instead of a JSA movie we're getting a Rock "The Dwyane" Johnson vanity project that is likely going to feature them all getting smoked by the people's elbow while he eyebrow tweaks to the vine boom

I miss the Rock with hair. His appearance has gotten so lazy in recent memory. Always looks the same in everything now.

@SanFranLand - I wouldn't mind seeing him as Namor, but I think is acting is too one-dimensional.

I’m actually somewhat excited for this film if only because the CGI looks a lot better than the shit Marvel has been putting out over the last six years. The locations don’t look like they’re all green screens. Thankfully, it looks like Rock and co. removed the piss filter too.

Plus Dr. Fate looks bad ass too

TheLobster

@GhostDog - I said what I said.

Sure; there’s absolute green screen sets here but it doesn’t look like the entire film was one huge green screen ala Marvel
TheLobster
TheLobster - 9/20/2022, 12:41 PM
@GhostDog - and also the green screen work here is MUCH better anyways. Marvel is truly shitting the bed when it comes to their VFX work and it makes sense when you hear about how terrible they treat their VFX team.

Marvel needs to stop being greedy and get their shit together. I’m not saying DC has their shit together, they do not at all, but at least their VFX doesn’t look like straight up ass.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/20/2022, 1:07 PM
@TheLobster - fair enough but I think the vfx in this looks absolutely fake and as ass as some of what we got in Love and Thunder in some cases.

I would only toss that ”entirely shot on green screen” criticism (as of late; i think the first three phases they were solid mostly) at Love & Thunder which was abysmal. Besides the Asgard stuff, that whole film felt like a green screen.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 9/20/2022, 5:36 PM
@GhostDog - respectfully disagree about the VFX. Perhaps in the earlier trailers, sure, but the newest one looks great and there’s some 4K screengrabs of the trailer that look straight up outstanding IMO. Check this:

But yeah Love and Thunder… yeeeeeesh it’s like everything I hate about Phase Four was embodied in a single film lmao

Close, so credit where it's due. But the cover's more casual lean back and pile of bodies really changes the tones between the poster and the cover like night and day.

If he would had hair and pointy ears then it would of been much better

For some reason, this poster is not looking as imposing as the original cover.

I agree that he would be more similar if he let his hair grow. I'm just seeing the Rock doing a Black Adam cosplay.

Dwayne Johnson is the lazy casting for Black Adam. They went with a bankable name, but they should have gone with someone who embodies the character. Showing that re-creation of the comic book cover only makes the disparity between the two that much more obvious.

This is dope and all but it still boggles my mind how Comic Book Movies of all genres don't have better posters. These films should literally have the best posters in cinema history. The source material is known for iconic imagery as cover artwork. How not as single comic book movie hasn't recreated an iconic comic cover for the poster blows my mind. Some of the best modern artwork today comes in the form of comic book cover art.

The classic Black Adam throne pose recreated is cool and all but still SUPER basic. Google the best comic covers of all time and these movie posters and covers are wet garbage.

@Deadinside - I would love to see that, especially if they do a flashback period piece set in the 60s to start the Fantastic 4 movie. A great, hand drawn throwback poster.

Some of you are putting this movie through so many filters.

Yet, 90% of you are waiting for Ryan Reynolds to play Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy 2. Sorry, I meant The Change up 2....nope The Proposal 2.

Deadpool 3. There it is.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - You're reaching. Everyone is complaining about the rock being in another rock movie. Same as Deadpool 3 being Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds.

Also, Deadpool first appearred in the early 80s...before Ryan Reynolds was a thing. Personally, before the movie, I saw him as Sean William Scott.
