BLACK ADAM Taps JOKER & GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Cinematographer Larry Sher

After officially announcing that the release date for Black Adam, star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has once again taken to social media to reveal that the movie has added Larry Sher as cinematographer...

Earlier this week, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced that Black Adam would hit theaters on 22 December, 2021, and the actor has now revealed that the movie has gained the services of a very fine DP.

Johnson responded to a Tweet from Collider's Steve Weintraub, adding that Larry Sher has come aboard the project as cinematographer. Sher's previous credits include The Hangover trilogy, Paul, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Joker. He also did additional photography for The Rock's upcoming Jungle Cruise movie.

Plot details for Black Adam are still under wraps, but we do know that the character will be portrayed as a hero - something that is quite a departure for the ruthless, if occasionally honorable villain from the DC comic books.

There are rumors that Adam Sztykiel's script will borrow heavily from Peter Tomasi and Doug Mahnke’s Black Adam: The Dark Age, but we haven't had any official word on that.

I hope the original rumors of Hawk Man and Hawk Girl are true.

That would be rad.

@DannRamm113 - That's been the rumor for awhile. It depends on how much of the past they show in his film.

@DannRamm113 - Hopefully Dr. Fate makes an appearance too, because Nabu plays a big part in the past against Black Adam.

I wonder how people are going to react to this very tame very heroic version of Black Adam?

Well, I'm not gonna be seeing this. Not to do with the cinematographer news, I just don't think anything will be able to convince me to go see a Black Adam movie starring The Rock.

On one hand you could worry about watering down a morally ambiguous villain. On the other hand...One couldn't find a better comic book page to real life look-alike than Black Adam to Dwayne Johnson.

From the writer of Rampage and the director of Jungle Cruise. This is going to be a very Dwayne Johnson movie. I hope that’s a good thing.

@TheUnworthyThor

Jaume Collet Serra has made some slightly above average thrillers. I imagine this movie will have a different tone than Jungle Cruise.

@regularmovieguy - I’m not doubting any individual talent. I’m not even doubting how good the movie will be overall. I’m just noting that the Rock assembling frequent collaborators means he is crafting this movie to be his type of movie and has a lot of power on this project.

Gotcha, can’t argue that. Whether this succeeds or fails is on the Rock’s shoulders. Definitely his baby.

Why aren't they using 'Anti Hero' instead? Last thing that comes to my mind is hero when it comes to black adam

@LordZero - because it was used in the comics to , black adam is à heros for his people.

If this is truly just a origin 99% of the movie could be him as a slave then gaining powers and setting his ppl free becoming a hero in the process.. maybe show small glimpses of Daenerys Targaryen in his eyes.. hinting at what could happen in the future.. in Shazam 2 they could explain how he went mad or how he was corrupted w/ just a few flashbacks while still maintaining his hero origin .. something along those line .. eventually turning him into an anti- hero at some point down the road..
