Marvel Studios Executive Producer Touts Company's "Quality First, Then Diversity" Approach

Marvel executive producer Nate Moore says the company will not rush a production just to meet a diversity quota or achieve some PC agenda - even when it's a character they're excited about.

Marvel has Black Panther hitting theaters in 2018, which will mark the first mainstream superhero film focusing on a minority.  They'll follow that up with Captain Marvel and Ant-Man & The Wasp, two films shining the spotlight on two stalwarts from the comic publisher's female superhero roster.  However, ever since the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off with 2008's Iron Man, fans have been vocal about wanting minority superheroes to appear on screen, particularly the King of Wakanda and Carol Danvers.

Speaking to Complex, executive producer Nate Moore says Marvel simply has an unwavering commitment to excellence which doesn't allow them to put out a film that doesn't meet their high standards.

"We want to tell the best stories with the strongest developed characters and scripts that we can. Our biggest concern is that, in trying to get more characters out there, we rush something that’s not ready and we deliver something that’s not up to our standards. So it’s less about us rushing a character that’s diverse to get it out quickly and more about figuring out how to do it right. "

Black Panther hits theaters on February 18, 2018.  Ant-Man & The Wasp premieres on July 6, 2018 while Captain Marvel's standalone film arrives on March 8, 2019.
