Mahershala Ali is set to take on the role of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the first man to suit-up as the Daywalker on the big screen, Wesley Snipes, has now weighed in on his successor.

Though they were never big hits with the critics, the Blade movies (well, the first two) are considered classics by many fans, and a lot of people were hoping to see Wesley Snipes reprise the role for the planned Marvel Studios reboot.

Of course, we now know that Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage, Green Book) will take over as the Daywalker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Snipes has taken to social media to show support for the Academy Award-winner.

When a fan wished Ali luck in the role before adding that "he’s gonna have a hard time outdoing Wesley Snipes," the Demolition Man star gave a brief, but encouraging response: "He will do great."

Spoilers follow.

We're sure many of you have seen Eternals at this stage, but if you haven't, best stop reading now.

Ali actually made his (offscreen) MCU debut as Blade in the post-credits scene of Eternals when he dropped by to offer guidance to Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), who was about to take up the Ebony Blade. This obviously hints at a Blade/Black Knight team-up down the line, but the Daywalker is also rumored to show up in the Moon Knight Disney+ series.

We might just get an update during today's Disney+ Day presentation, so be sure to keep an eye out.

Watch his behind the scenes for the blade films. He is such an A-HOLE.

Alot of the scenes for blade have a snipes stand in. The guy is difficult to work with

@TheWalkingCuban - These constant bickering’s about Blade and X-Men; which one took comic books seriously first and started the trend.

@SamaelSaint - not to personally disagree but there’s a reason that’s not in the conversation: it’s not remembered by enough cool people

Snipes ice skated uphill so Ali can slide down. Get the reference?

Remember when Snipes was in jail and people sent him cards? That was a fun time.

@LSHF - I will say he got screwed over a bit. Nicholas Cage got to dodge jail time by selling his Bavarian estate.

If this was actually a R rated adaptation, it’d be my most anticipated maybe even over The Batman simply due to Ali being cast in the role. Hard to get excited about a pg 13 Blade but that’s just me.

If Blade does show up in Moon Knight, I wonder if Marvel intends for him to take on a Nick Fury type role in that he is the one who brings the Midnight Sons together.

Pretty sure he's expressed support for Ali a some point before when asked about this project.

@MosquitoFarmer - He did, but people have increasingly shorter memories about such things. Also, I'm sure Jamie B meant well, but

I like Ali a lot as an actor and fully believes he will be one of the greatest comic book castings ever. Even his Cottonmouth left an impression on everyone before being killed off
