Original BLADE Wesley Snipes Weighs In On Mahershala Ali Replacing Him As Marvel's Daywalker

Wesley Snipes starred in three Blade movies and has spent the past few years campaigning for the opportunity to reprise the role in the MCU. Now, he weighs in on Mahershala Ali rebooting the character...

Marvel Studios ended its Hall H panel on Saturday with a real bombshell announcement when we learned that Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali will play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie will be part of Phase 5, and there's understandably already a lot of excitement about seeing what the True Detective star will bring to the role.

So, how is original Blade Wesley Snipes feeling about this news?

After all, he's spent the past few years talking about how much he would like to bring his version of the Daywalker back to the big screen, and there were even rumblings a few years back about Snipes reprising the role in a movie that would have seen him training a young woman to be his replacement.

Well, based on these comments, he's just happy for his replacement!

"To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL good. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew - always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique."

It's certainly feasible that Snipes could take on a different role in Blade, but it all depends on whether that's something Marvel Studios would be interested in doing (it feels like anything is possible after J.K. Simmons returned as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home).

What do you guys think?

It's not like it was his choice...

Props to him for being respectful though.

@L0RDbuckethead - he seems very respectful in public. Behind the scenes though...have you ever heard what happened on the blade trinity set?

@Origame - Oh yeah. He has a notoriously nasty reputation with his co-stars and directors behind the scenes.

I've heard he's cleaned his act up in recent years, but is still very "diva-ish" when working.

@L0RDbuckethead - i think he wised up that he can't work if no one wants to tolerate him.

@Origame - So what! That's just one side of the story. Besides how would you act after reading that script!

Either way you didn't hear any of those "rumors" about him during Blade 1 and 2.

@Thanoswasright - it was confirmed by Reynolds and payton. Its not just one side of the story. Not to mention his history of being extremely hard to work with.

Also I most certainly wouldn't act like a child and hold myself up in my trailer.

I’d love if the MCU gave older actors some cameos. It’d be nice. Wesley has to come back for a small role in this one.

Imagine Tobey Maguire as a pizza guy in SM3 or even Hugh Jackman at a bar in the X-Men reboot

I feel like it’s only a matter of time before he shows up in the MCU anyways.

@newhire13 - No way. Apparently he was a nightmare to work with on set. He would come to set late and drunk and wanted to be addressed as "Blade" after filming was over. And he would get upset at the crew if they had to do more than 1 take on a scene. He also was reported to have demanded some dialogue changed at last minute when he didn't feel it.

@SonOfAGif - thats not even the worst of it. He got baked on the set of blade trinity and refused to come out of his trailer. Thats the real reason he's barely in the movie. What we see is just what everyone could actually get out of him while they filmed around that. So we get all these reynolds stand up with weird reaction shots from blade and his body double getting more screentime than him.

@Origame - was all because of David S Goyer.
Even Del Toro didn't like what Goyer was writing in Blade 2. Its on the extra features on the dvd.

You all need to watch that. Also it was reported by that actor who came out and spilled the beans about Wesley getting high tha Goyer had a black background actor wear a shirt that said *Garbage.*

Goyer was the problem. He went from screen writer to director. That was a mistake.

His writing is often changed and altered by directors. Not ONE of his movies he directed succeeded in the box office.

Blade Trinity only made the money it did off the hype of the 1st two movies and Wesley. PERIOD

@NubaX - so goyer not having the best vision for the script excuses snipes from getting high in his trailer all day and forcing the rest of the production to work around him? Im not saying what goyer had in mind was instantly gonna be great but it would have at least been better than what we got. Snipes is a grown man paid to do a job. His double shouldn't have more screentime than him.

@Origame - you completely disregarded that he made a black man wear a shirt that said *Garbage*. And what Del Toro said about him.

You just wanna ignore it so you're already bias. That means movies that he directs have all FLOPPED!

Trust me, he has some kind of of inside connections to still be hired. It's not because of his talent.

@knocturnalzen10 - I knew what he meant even as a kid. Funny how a lot of people think its some cool, empty line with no meaning. Vampires are constantly in a state of rebellion against Blade. Some people like to make things unnecessarily difficult.

Apparently, its a phrase Snipes used in a conversation and Goyer included it in the movie when he heard him saying it. Snipes didn't want it in the movie but Goyer won.
