Marvel Studios ended its Hall H panel on Saturday with a real bombshell announcement when we learned that Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali will play
Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie will be part of Phase 5, and there's understandably already a lot of excitement about seeing what the
True Detective star will bring to the role.
So, how is original
Blade Wesley Snipes feeling about this news?
After all, he's spent the past few years talking about how much he would like to bring his version of the Daywalker back to the big screen, and there were even rumblings a few years back about Snipes reprising the role in a movie that would have seen him training a young woman to be his replacement.
Well, based on these comments, he's just happy for his replacement!
"To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx. Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL good. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew - always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique."
It's certainly feasible that Snipes could take on a different role in
Blade, but it all depends on whether that's something Marvel Studios would be interested in doing (it feels like anything is possible after J.K. Simmons returned as J. Jonah Jameson in
Spider-Man: Far From Home).
