Sony Pictures has officially announced today that
Bloodshot, their live-action Valiant Comics adaptation, will be available to purchase on all Digital HD platforms for $19.99, starting on Tuesday, March 24.
The Vin Diesel-starrer only just bowed in theaters last week, but was significantly affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in nationwide theater shutdowns and audiences choosing to stay home in an effort to stay safe and flatten the curve. To date, it's grossed over $24.6 million worldwide on an estimated $45 million production budget and it's believed that under normal circumstances, the film would have had a good chance at becoming a moderate hit for the studio.
Bloodshot is the latest film to move up its digital launch to next week, joining Warner Bros. Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn and STXFilms' The Gentlemen. Universal's Dolittle, which starred Robert Downey Jr., is also set for its digital debut next Tuesday.
Universal is also making The Invisible Man, Emma and The Hunt available to rent this Friday and are making Trolls: World Tour available to rent on April 10, day-and-date with its initial theatrical release date.
While neither Black Widow nor Mulan (nor any major upcoming release) will receive this treatment, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Walt Disney Studios may already be considering bringing the recently released Onward or The Call of the Wild, both of which underperformed at the box office, to Disney+ and other digital platforms earlier than anticipated. Same goes for Warner Bros., who have a similar decision to make with Ben Affleck's The Way Back.
Based on the bestselling comic book, Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation. With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he’s an unstoppable force –stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. But in controlling his body, the company has sway over his mind and memories, too. Now, Ray doesn’t know what’s real and what’s not – but he’s on a mission to find out.
